L&T’s Delhi Metro TBM-1 Records Breakthrough at IGNOU Station
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in January-end celebrated tunnel boring machine (TBM) DZ1122’s breakthrough at IGNOU Metro Station of Delhi Metro’s 23.622 km Golden Line (Line-10) which will connect Aerocity – Tughalakabad via 15 stations.
This was TBM-01 (DZ1122)’s third and final breakthrough, and overall the ninth tunnel breakthrough for Delhi Metro Phase 4 project’s 6.51 km Package DC-09 connecting Kishangarh – Saket G Block. With this development, only one more breakthrough is now pending on this package.
DZ1122 is a CRCHI Earth Pressure Balance machine. For its final assignment, TBM-01 built a roughly 1.7 km tunnel for the up-line from City Forest Ramp (Hauz Rani) to IGNOU Station during which it recorded a hidden breakthrough and passed through Neb Sarai Station’s 130m box.
Prior to this, DZ1122 built a 1267m tunnel from Chattarpur Station to Kishangarh Station in 2023, and then a 865m tunnel from Chattarpur Station’s eastern-end to Chhatarpur Mandir Station in 2024.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had awarded L&T with Package DC-09’s Rs. 1428 crore contract in March 2022 with a 42 month deadline.
Their 6.51 km section, with twin-tunnels in the middle of the Golden Line, will connect Kishangarh Station (chainage 5356.285) with a cut and cover ramp (chainage 11867.000) west of Saket G Block Station. It includes 4 stations at Chhattarpur (interchange with Yellow Line), Chhattarpur Mandir, IGNOU and Neb Sarai.

DZ1122 is one of L&T’s four TBMs working on Package DC-09 between Kishangarh – Saket Ramp. The others are DZ1123 (TBM-02), DZ1124 (TBM-03) and DZ1125 (TBM-04).
As shared above, this was 9th of 10 breakthroughs planned in Package DC-09. While TBM-03 and TBM-04 have completed their assignments, TBM-02 is currently building the parallel downline tunnel from City Forest Ramp to IGNOU and is expected to record this package’s final breakthrough within the next 2 weeks.
Overall a total of 17 tunnel breakthroughs have been recorded so far for the Golden Line. From east to west: 6/8 by Afcons for Package DC-07, 9/10 by L&T for Package DC-09, and 2/6 by J Kumar on Package DC-08. A full list of breakthroughs including contractors for all Golden Line civil & system packages can be viewed here.
