DMRC Revises ITO – Kashmere Gate Line’s Deadline to November 2016
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has once again quietly revised the official deadline of the 5.37 km ITO – Kashmere Gate section of the Violet Line to November 2016. In the past they were targeting this section of the 160 km Phase 3 project to open in December 2015, pushed it up to March 2016 and then once again to September. At the start of the year, the line’s Chief Project Manager was chasing an Independence Day (August 15) opening which was substantiated by this internal circular.
Tunneling works on this section, especially the Jama Masjid – Delhi Gate portion was quite challenging and necessitated the use of an additional TBM & mid-shaft at Golcha Cinema in Daryaganj. In March 2016, the contractor for this portion, the L&T-SUCG JV, was finally able achieve the line’s final TBM breakthrough at the Delhi Gate station.
Project Background:
Under the Delhi Metro Phase-III project, the Violet Line is currently being extended by a distance of 9.37 km from Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate. Out of this, the 3.03 km Central Secretariat – Mandi House stretch became operational on June 26 2014 and the .972 km Mandi House – ITO stretch on June 8 2015 – See: Delhi Metro’s History.

For construction purposes, the line was divided up into 3 contracts. Here’s a list along with the contractors:
• Contract CC-01 from Central Secretariat to Mandi House: Pratibha – CRFG JV
• Contract CC-05 from Mandi House to Jama Masjid: L&T – SUCG JV
• Contract CC-07 from Jama Masjid to Kashmere Gate: Era – Metrostroy JV

Hi! Till when do you expect the trial runs to begin on this stretch?
Tough to put a month for trials, especially with DMRC making very last minute announcements in this phase. But I do agree with Aby’s assessment below. There’s a lot pending, both inside & overground. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start trials on a small section (ITO-Delhi Gate) next month in order to establish a milestone for the record and keep the junta satisfied.
I think it will take another 3 -4 months for trials to begin n another one or two month for operational lots of pending work even work at Kashmiri gate just started

wonder y dmrc now days is giving false deadlines.
I wonder why as well. Perhaps the new MD fears criticism as this would be the most delayed phase among all 3? Trial runs so far have been mostly to ‘show’ that things are on track while they clearly aren’t.
So this line will be ready for passenger operations in november 2016.

our self styled efficient and in fact duffer CM should take credit for this inordinate delay. are u listening mr kanjariwal?
November is going to start will the line start operating or again we ur going shift the deadline?
Now the DMRC is saying December, but I anticipate it to take a little more time than that.

There are no immediate election in Delhi. Hence, no pressure on DMRC.After Mr Sridharan left DMRC is on god’s mercy. There is no consistency in running the trains specially rush hours. one day you will have 5 train in one minute gap each another day no train for 8 miniutes. Secury guards sacked on all stations, which cause delay in leaving trains from crowded stations causing unnecessary delay in service.

A good News for Metro Goers, as per my Study I got to know that Trials are going on at this section & all are well qualified & in end of November 2016 or in starting of December 2016 This line is ready to open & 99.9 % work completed @ Delhi Gate & Jama Masjid & 98% @ Lal Quila & 96% @ kashmiri gate…
Soon it is going to open with a huge crowd at this Heritage Violet Line….

so the line connecting further Central Secretariat to KG is almost done ?
Means we do not need to switch lines after coming from Escorts to CS and then CS to KG ??

No need to switch at CS. Trains on the Violet Line will continue onward from from CS to KG.
Can we expect the full functioning of Escorts Mujesar to Kashmere Gate via ITO in the very beginning of the new year 2017 ? As a new year gift ?
DMRC is saying Jan-end. It’ll take more time than that. I’m looking at April-June 2017.
