Two months after inviting bids from infrastructure companies for the construction of Reach 4’s 8.15 km viaduct, the Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (NMRCL) has now invited bids for the construction of 8 elevated stations between Sitabuldi & Prajapati Nagar in east Nagpur. This section is part of the 18.557 km east-west line and overall the 3rd of 4 sections where construction will start, with work already underway at Reach 1 (Sitabuldi-Khapri) and Reach 3 (Sitabuldi-Lokmanya Nagar).

A major part of the line will be built on the congested Central Avenue where 8 new stations are planned to come at Nagpur Railway Station, Dosar Vaisya Square, Agrasen Square, Chittaroli Square, Telephone Exchange, Ambedkar Square, Vaishnao Devi Square & Prajapati Nagar.

The last date for submitting tender documents for bidding is 4 pm on February 21, 2017 after which the bids will be opened & evaluated for eligibility at 4:30 pm. The financial bids are expected to be opened in Q2 2017 and once the contract is finalized, piling work for the stations can be expected to begin in Q3 2017.

The NMRCL recently released the final design for the Sitabuldi Interchange Station prepared by a consortium of Enia Architects, Mahendra Raj Consultants and Worxpace Consulting. Hopefully bids for it will be invited soon, otherwise the NMRCL will have to run inefficient operations through 2 fragmented lines (shown in green above) like in Bangalore.

Hey, isn’t year 2017? Q2 2016 has passed and opening of bids can’t be “expected” in 2016!
    Next time, take care 🙂
