DMRC Extends Magenta Line Trial Runs to Botanical Garden Station

With electrification complete, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation yesterday evening extended trial runs on its upcoming 38.235 km Magenta Line by a further 3.9 km east to the Botanical Garden station in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. With this, the entire 12 km elevated portion of the line, from Kalkaji Mandir to Botanical Garden, is now being tested to ensure smooth operations prior to its launch in 2017.

The DMRC first started trials on this line between Kalindi Kunj & Okhla Vihar in June 2016, and then extended them to the Kalkaji Mandir station in August. During the trial runs, the DMRC and its contractors will extensively test its new Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, Over Head Electrification system, Platform Screen Doors, various other sub-systems and the trains’ interaction with the viaduct.

Yea, there’s quite some interior finishing, architectural detailing, PSD & AFC work left at all stations.

Major civil work at Okhla Phase III station is also pending. Most of the station still has scaffolding and roof works are in progress. This station is the weakest link in the chain right now.

Recently dmrc published on newspaper that pink and magenta lines will open in parts by 2017. Pink line’s last section mayur vihar pocket 1 to shiv vihar will open in September 2017. Will the partly demolished building near hasanpur village near i.p extension will be demolished. Because without the line could not be opened as it connects the vinod nagar depot.

You mean the last tunnel? 775/905 rings have been built. Another 180 or so meters to go. I expect proper trials on both tunnels to begin in Q3/Q4 2017.

They are going to ‘push’ a train through the tunnels – either using the train’s battery (reserve power) or via a locomotive. There’s a chance that R4 (National College – Yelachenahalli) will open before the UG tunnels and not along with it. This would be similar to R2 (Magadi Road-Mysore Road) opening 6 months before the Purple Line’s UG tunnels opened. Let’s see what their game plan is because conducting trials while work is underway inside the tunnels wouldn’t be optimal.
