PM Modi Unveils Foundation Stone for Mumbai Metro’s Line-2B & Line-4
Earlier today at 4 pm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the foundation stones for Mumbai Metro’s 23.5 km Line-2B (DN Nagar – Bandra – Mankhurd) and 32.32 km Line-4 (Wadala – Ghatkopar – Mulund – Thane – Kasarvadavali) at an event organized by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority at their grounds located in the Bandra Kurla Complex.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of both lines were prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and approved by the state government’s cabinet in September 2016 at a cost of Rs. 10,986 crore and Rs. 14,549 crore respectively. Both state and central governments are expected to entirely fund the lines’ civil construction, but will borrow funds for the procurement and installation of subsystems (eg. rolling stock, signalling, escalators etc). The MMRDA has been in talks with the Asian Development Bank and World Bank for some time now, but a loan agreement has not yet been finalized.
• Line-2B – DN Nagar – Bandra – Mankhurd – shown in Blue
Stations: DN Nagar, ESIC Nagar, JVPD, Juhu, Juhu Airport, Arya Samaj Chowk, Khar, National College. Bandra, Kalanagar, ITO, NABARD, MTNL, Kurla, Chembur Naka, Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Factory and Mankhurd.
This line is an extension of the 18.6 km Line 2A, connecting Dahisar with DN Nagar, for which J Kumar recently started construction work on both civil packages.
• Line-4 – Wadala – Ghatkopar – Mulund – Thane – Kasarvadavali – shown in Purple
Stations: Bhakti Park Metro, Wadala TT, Anik Nagar Bus Depot, Suman Nagar, Siddharth Colony, Amar Mahal Junction, Garodia Nagar, Pant Nagar , Laxmi Nagar, Shreyas Cinema, Godrej Company, Vikhroli Metro, Surya Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Naval Housing, Bhandup Mahapalika, Bhandup Metro, Shangrila, Sonapur, Mulund Fire Station, Mulund Naka, Teen Haath Naka (Thane), RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Cadbury Junction, Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikuji-ni-wadi, Dongri Pada, Vijay Garden and Kasarvadavali.
This line in the future will be extended south to CST Station and possibly onward to Apollo Bandar where the Gateway of India monument is located.
Unlike Line-3, the MMRDA will execute both lines and hasn’t released their DPRs or a map displaying the exact locations of all stations. However, a rough location of all stations can be viewed here for Line-2 and here for Line-4. With the MMRDA yet to invite bids for the Detailed Design Consultant and General Consultant services prior to the civil construction packages, ground work on both lines is currently at least another 1 year away from starting.

2018 is going to a monumental year for Mumbai Metro. Lines 3, 2 (A,B), 4, & 7 will be under construction. I wonder if 5 & 6 will be as well by then?
Most likely they’ll be approved prior to the 2019 elections

They’ve teamed up with the Asian Development Bank. Most likely the loan agreement will be signed next year.
I’m loving this government’s intent and desire to improve the city’s transportation. Have they decided what colour each line will be??
Not yet – the colors I’ve displayed are simply indicative. Back in March, MMRDA’s Commissioner indicated they’ll assign colors once significant work has been completed for each line.
Mumbai already has very good local train network , Will metro and mono rail be integrated with local train ,meaning will any station have both local train and metro at ground and 1st floor level ?
Does it make sense for mumbai to have 3 different types to train network(local train, metro and mono) or rather have just 1 type of train network
Hi, the local train network has good connectivity to different parts, but is shabby, overcrowded, a safety hazard and something that Mumbai’s citizens do not deserve in 2016. Maybe in 1980, but not in 2016.
All metro and monorail lines will be connected to the local system (eg. Line 3 at Churchgate, CST, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi stations – see list) wherever they cross each other.
Nothing wrong in have 3 systems, but their execution hasn’t been correct. Ideally the funds for the monorail should have been utilized to construct a metro line to form a proper new transportation backbone for the city. Following that, the monorail should have been built as a feeder service and also to connect places where the metro cannot connect.

what is work status of Metro 2B, is the above plan final and when do u expect this metro 2b project to be completed, How can i see the all the metro route plan on google map, pls reply
They need to invite bids for the line’s construction before work can begin. At this time, I don’t see it becoming completely operational before 2023. You can see a google map of all lines here.
WHY MUMBAI LINE 3 is getting delayed? Aarya colony depot cannot be the only reason for such delay!! Do u have any information for real cause of delay in project??
Bids received in Sept 2015 for its construction were collectively 30% higher than the 2011 estimate. MMRCL had to negotiate with all bidders and finally awarded the contracts in July 2016 – see details here. Since then, the line’s progress has been satisfactory.
