[Pics] Chennai Metro’s Nehru Park Station – March 2017

Here’s a picture-post with some new images of Chennai Metro’s upcoming Nehru Park Station – the temporary eastern terminal of the 22 km Green Line until the rest of the line towards Central Station gets ready. This station was built by Larsen & Toubro under package UAA-04 (Shenoy Nagar – Egmore) of Chennai Metro’s 45.1 km Phase 1 project.

The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) currently operates trains on this line from St. Thomas Mount to Koyambedu, and plans to open the 8 km Koyambedu – Nehru Park underground section in April 2017. All 7 new stations on this section include platform screen doors (PSDs) for passenger safety & to reduce electricity consumption, and once operational, Chennai will become the 2nd city in India after Delhi to operate them.

In preparation for this line’s launch, the CMRL started trial runs between Koyambedu & Anna Nagar East stations in April 2016, extended them to Shenoy Nagar in July 2016 and then to Nehru Park in October 2016. Some nice images and videos from the underground section can be seen here: [Pics] Chennai Metro’s First Underground Section Nearing Completion.

The 7 new stations on this section are located at Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar Tower, Anna Nagar East, Shenoy Nagar, Pachaiyappa’s College (erst. Aminjikarai), Kilpauk Medical College and Nehru Park:

Sometime in the middle of 2019. The last 2 TBMs between Thousand Lights & AG-DMS are currently struggling through mixed ground conditions. March 11 ring update:
      S703 – 501/1248
      S704 – 310/1246
      1 ring = 1.4m

    Mr TMRG,
I learn that the final inspection for the Nehru Nagar – Koyambedu – Shenoy Nagar has started.
The UG length is 7.63 Kms and overground length is 4.63 kms.

Do you have information about what is the time taken for construction/ commissioning i.e
When was the work on this stretch started .
