Systra Awarded Mumbai Metro Line-4’s DDC Contract

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced that SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of SYSTRA Group, has been appointed as the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for Mumbai Metro’s upcoming 32.32 km Line-4 which will connect Wadala – Ghatkopar – Mulund – Thane – Kasarvadavali through 32 elevated stations.

The MMRDA had invited bids for this service in July 2017. Besides working with the MMRDA (owner) & Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (interim consultant) to review the design of the viaduct and stations, SYSTRA’s role includes and is not limited to producing and proposing alternate designs of all architectural, building services, electrical and mechanical works for the depot, staff quarters, operations control centre (OCC) and auxiliary structures.

SYSTRA is not new to Mumbai. In 2007, they were appointed as the Engineering & Project Management Consultants for the 11.4 km Line-1. Elsewhere, Systra has won DDC contracts for Lucknow (Line-1), Delhi (Pink Line), Bangalore (Line-3), Chennai (Phase 1 extn), Hyderabad (Phase 1) and Kanpur (Line-1/2) metro projects.

Financial bids for the construction of Mumbai’s Line-4 were opened in August, but contracts have not been awarded yet as the bids were more than 20% higher than the MMRDA-DMRC’s estimates. Bids were re-invited for a section of Line-2, but there hasn’t been any visible movement on Line-4.
