L&T-STEC JV Completes Casting 1000 Tunnel Rings for Mumbai Metro

This weekend, Larsen & Toubro and Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company (L&T – STEC) JV announced the completion of casting work for a 1000 tunnel rings which will form the twin tunnels of Mumbai Metro’s 33.5 km Line-3 between Cuffe Parade & Aarey Colony.

These tunnel ring segments will be erected by three TBMs (Wainganga 1, 2 & 3) exclusively for tunnels on the 4.157 km package UGC-07 located on the northern end of the line between CSIA Terminal 2 – Marol Naka – MIDC – SEEPZ  – Sariput Nagar Ramp. A tunnel ring is typically 1.4 m wide, and consists of 5 segments + 1 ‘key’ segment. For the entire 33.5 km line, approximately 40,000 rings will be cast for all 7 civil packages.

In a separate announcement, they’ve revealed that TBM T-206 “Wainganga-1” (commissioned on January 8) has completed erecting 100 rings from the Pali Ground Shaft towards CSIA Terminal 2 Station –

Parts of TBM D215 ‘Wainganga-3’ are currently being lowered into the Pali Ground Shaft, while parts of TBM D213 ‘Wainganga-2’ have been stationed near the Sariput Nagar Ramp waiting for the shaft to get ready.
