5 Bidders for Delhi – Meerut RRTS’ UG Ashok Vihar – Sahibabad Leg

Five construction firms have submitted tenders (bids) to build the 5.6 km underground Package 4 of the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut (RRTS) Smart Line after officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) opened tenders on Monday afternoon to reveal its list of bidders.

This underground package’s tunnels will be built using tunnel boring machines (TBMs), and connect the New Ashok Nagar Down Ramp with the Sahibabad UP Ramp through one station at Anand Vihar where the line will be connected to the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Pink lines for easy transfers.

Bidders:

• Gülermak Agir Sanayi Insaat ve Taahhut A.S. (Gulermak)
• Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
• Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. (Afcons)
• Tata Projects Ltd. – SK E&C JV (TPL – SKEC JV)
• Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. Ltd. (STEC)

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor of the line.

NCRTC invited tenders for Delhi – Meerut RRTS’ package 4 on November 11, 2019 and expects the assigned contractor to complete work in 1095 days (3 years).

Brief Scope of Package 4: Design and construction of tunnels of Package 4 by Tunnel Boring Machine from near New Ashok Nagar DN Ramp to Sahibabad UP Ramp and for one underground station at Anand Vihar by cut & cover method [Including Architectural Finishing and Design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Electrical and Mechanical Systems including Fire detection & suppression Systems and Hydraulic systems].

Are the tunnels for Smart Lines going to be wider than the tunnels for Metros as the Smart trains will run much faster?

Yup. metro tunnels in India have a diameter in the range of 6.2-6.8m. For this system, tunnels will have a dia around 7.4-7.5m
