5 Bidders for Mumbai Metro Line-5/7A/9’s Systems General Consultant
5 design engineering and project management firms have submitted bids for providing General Consultant (GC) services to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the systems work of Mumbai Metro’s 24.9 km Line-5 (Orange Line), 3.17 km Line-7A and 11.38 km Line-9 (Red Line).
MMRDA invited bids for this service in February 2020 and opened technical bids on Tuesday to reveal its list of bidders.
Bidders:
- Ayesa – Italferr JV
- SMEC – RITES – Hill – MM JV
- Egis – AECOM JV
- Systra MVA Consulting
- DB Engineering
MMRDA expects the period of work to last 42 weeks over the entire course of implementing the project.
The assigned consultant’s scope of work would typically entail providing MMRDA assistance in design, supervision, safety, quality control and contract management for all systems such as rolling stock, train control and signalling system, overhead catenary systems, power supply, telecom, automated fare collection (AFC), escalators etc.
Civil construction for a 12.8 km portion of the 24.9 km Line-5 (Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan) is underway by Afcons Infrastructure, while Line-9 (Dahisar – Mira Bhayandar) and Line-7A (Andheri East – CSIA T2) are under construction by J Kumar Infraprojects.
Back in August 2019, a consortium of Systra – Consulting Engineers Group Ltd – Systra MVA Consulting (India) was appointed as the General Consultant for the civil works of Line-5, 7A and 9.

If MMRDA have already awarded Systra as a GC for these corridors on Aug 2019, then why they reinvite bids for the same?
That was for General Consultancy, after fishing that it’s for civil work…
Systra is GC for civil. This contract is for systems work. Typically only one GC is appointed, but MMRDA split them up.
It is high time KALYAN city which is a major and one of the most ancient township gets its recognition and concerned authorities confirm a real concrete plan of Metro Line 5 & 12 on top priority
What about remaining part of Line 5 (Bhiwandi to kalyan)? Recently there were reports that it’s going to be scrapped due land acquisition issues. Any updates?
Don’t have an update on land acquisition. Haven’t heard or seen reports of it being scrapped either. I imagine it’s going to be a while before a tender notice for its construction is published.
MMRDA has to make some serious re-alignment on the Bhiwandi-Kalyan Section of a Orange line. Or they should make Underground to make it more beneficial. Orange Line will be more beneficial, if metro will pass through new kalyan, as it will provide best connectivity.
Is the planning of line 5 till Bhiwandi the best possible? Considering the under construction plan and the one from Bhiwandi to Kalyan it hardly gets into.the.most important of Bhiwandi. Also Kalyan – Dombivali – Navi Mumbai extension is parallel to existing train track. Orange line if moves to Ambernath would have been better.
