5 Bidders for Delhi-Meerut RRTS Line’s Package 8

5 construction firms / consortia have submitted bids to build the 5.68 km underground Package 8 of the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut (RRTS) Line after officials from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) opened e-tenders minutes ago to reveal its list of bidders.

NCRTC invited tenders for this package in February 2020 and expects the assigned contractor to complete work in 1310 days (3.6 years) from when the contract is awarded.

After the 5.6 km New Ashok Nagar Ramp – Anand Vihar – Sahibabad Ramp Package 4 in Delhi, for which STEC emerged as the lowest bidder in June, Package 8 is the second and final underground section of the line. It consists of 3 stations at Meerut Central, Bhaisali and Begumpul – and out of these – the ones at Meerut Central and Bhaisal will exclusively serve Meerut’s local metro system and be serviced by ten 3-coach Bombardier trains

Bidders:

  • Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. (Afcons)
  • Gulermak Agir Sanayi Insaat ve Taahh. A.S. (Gulermak)
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd. (STEC)
  • Yapı Merkezi İnşaat ve Sanayi A.Ş. – Tata Projects Ltd. (YM-TPL JV)

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

It’s a Turkish EPC firm. I don’t believe they’ve ever bid in India for an urban rail project prior to this.

What’s your opinion on economic feasibility of the RRTS project. Wouldn’t it be more feasible if it’s was of higher speed. Like shinkansen or maglev.

How will they operate the metro and RRTS operation on same rail lines? Will there be siding lines at stations so that RRTS trains can bypass metro trains?

Yes, the stations will have 4 platforms and 4 tracks in this line just like South Korea’s AREX Line. They run 2 types of trains
      1) Express Train :- Non-Stop Service from Seoul Incheon International airport to Seoul Station
      2) All Stop Train :- A Commuter service between same as mentioned above.
