JSPL & SAIL Bid for Delhi & Mumbai Metro Line-6 Depots’ Tracks

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) and Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) are the two firms who’ve submitted bids today to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the supply of 3500 MT of 90 UTS, UIC 60, 13 m, Class “A” 880 Grade tracks for use across seven depots on the Delhi Metro’s network and Mumbai Metro’s upcoming 15.18 km Line-6 (Pink Line)’s Kanjurmarg Depot.

The scope of this tender includes supplying 2000 MT to Delhi’s 6 existing depots for replacing or augmenting tracks at six depots, and 1500 MT to Mumbai where a depot east of Kanjurmarg Village will service and stable trains on the new Line-6 connecting Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) with Vikhroli through 13 stations.

  • Delhi Metro Line-6: Sarita Vihar & Ajronda Depot (information)

  • Mumbai Metro Line-6: Kanjurmarg Depot

Per the tender documents, the appointed manufacturer will be responsible for the production of these rails as per Indian Railway Specification T-12-2009, inspection & testing, loading, unloading, transportation & delivery to DMRC’s sites.

DMRC had invited bids for this package in July-end with an estimated value of Rs. 24.55 crore and 12 month period of completion. They opened technical bids moments ago to reveal Jindal and SAIL as the only two bidders.

Scope: Supply of 3500 MT 90 UTS, UIC 60, 13 m, Class “A” 880 Grade Rails, IRS-T-12-2009 for (A) DMRC Depot. Extensions at Delhi of Delhi MRTS Project and (B) Kanjur Marg Depot of Line-6 Corridor of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
