3 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line-4’s Porur – Poonamallee Section

Just like Package ECV-01, 3 construction firms / consortia have submitted tenders (bids) to construct the 7.945 km elevated Package ECV-02 from Porur Junction to Poonamallee Bypass of Chennai Metro’s new 26.09 km Line-4, after officials from the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) opened technical bids this afternoon to reveal its list of bidders.

This is the second elevated package of Line-4 (Light House – Poonamallee Bypass) of the upcoming 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project where technical bids have been opened. Besides a viaduct, it consists of 9 stations and a depot-line to a train maintenance depot at Poonamallee.

CMRL had invited tenders for its construction in August and expects the assigned contractor to finish all civil works within 36 months (3 years).

  • Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. – KEC International (HCC – KEC) JV
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • NCC Ltd.

Brief Scope: Construction of Elevated Metro Stations At Construction of Elevated Metro Stations at Chennai bypass crossing, Ramachandra Hospital, Iyyapanthangal Bus Depot, Katupakkam, Kumanan Chavadi, Karayan Chavadi, Mullai Thottam, Poonamallee Bus Terminus, Poonamallee Bypass & associated viaduct from chainage 17982.240 to chainage 25928.186 and approach to depot at Poonamallee & all associated works

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

This section of the Line-4 will be partly financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through a $356.65 million (approx. Rs. 2700 crore) loan. The loan’s concept review was approved on December 13, 2019, and a formal appraisal decision is currently pending.

With today’s development, here’s the status of all packages for which bids have been invited so far. For Line-4, tender notices are still pending for its 10.07 km underground section connecting Light House with Meenakshi College which will be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

    Tmrg , just add the stations in google map extension of chennai metro phase 2

      Hi, location of more than half the stations is still unknown to me. Specifically entire Line-5, and part of Line-3 and Line-4. I can add indicative locations but that’ll be misleading.

    Dear Sir,
    Could you please clarify the following,
    1)This above technical & financial bid of Line-4 ECV-1 & ECV-2 is for only Construction of station or both Construction of station & viaduct.
    2) If only station means, when will be the viaduct bids will be called ?
