J Kumar Launches Mumbai Metro Line-9’s 1st Pier Cap

A few hours ago, workers from J Kumar Infraprojects erected the first 9.5m wide pier cap for Mumbai Metro’s 11.38 km Line-9 (northern leg of Red Line) which will connect Dahisar East with Mira Bhayandar through 8 stations.

The roughly 60 MT pier cap was launched on top of pier 63 which is located right across from Thakur Mall near Pandurang Wadi Station’s site. Back in November – this 9 meter pier became the first of 491 piers to be cast for this line that connects Mumbai’s north-western suburbs.

The contract for Line-9’s construction under package CA-48 – a northern extension of the under construction 16.5 km Line-7 – was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects by the MMRDA in January 2020 after they had emerged as the lowest bidder for this line and Line-7A (southern extension of Line-7) in September 2019.

Their scope includes the construction of 3 double-decker viaducts on Kashmira Road measuring 1.5 km, 1.1 km and 754m for vehicles and metro trains, and 8 stations at Dahisar East (new station box), Pandurang Wadi (interchange with Line-10), Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Meditya Nagar, Shaheed Bhaghat Singh Garden and Subhash Chandra Bose Ground.

The team had completed casting 100 piles on July 14, 500 piles on October 31, and has now achieved casting 700 piles per Sachin Kothawale on Twitter, who adds that 45 pile caps and 11 piers have been cast so far.

Bcoz it is not confirmed yet, but i think they have drop the plan for Branch Line coz Golden Nest area doesn’t have enough space to negotiate right turn. If they want than some residential buildings will have to be demolished.
