Bangalore Metro’s Anjanapura Extn to be Inaugurated on Jan 14

Bangalore Metro’s 5.799 km Yelachenahalli – Silk Institute (Anjanapura) section will be inaugurated on January 14 with commercial operations starting on January 15, reports Christin Mathew Philip at The Times of India.

This southern extension of the 24.20 km Green Line was built by NCC Ltd. as part of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project’s 6.29 km Reach-4B. The rest of the line’s viaduct to Anjanapura Depot, across NICE Peripheral Road over which 50m steel girders were just launched, is expected to open in 2023 for accessing the new depot.

The extension was certified fit for commercial operations by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on November 23, after a 2 day inspection, with a list of 37 conditions which the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) had to rectify or adhere to.

This first section of Phase 2 includes 5 new elevated stations at Konankunte Cross (formerly Anjanapura Cross Road), Doddakallasandra (formerly Krishna Leela Park / ISKON), Vajrahalli, Thalgattapura, and Silk Institute (formerly Anjanapura / Anjanapura Township).

The line’s southern terminal was renamed to ‘Silk Institute’ late last year, which has already led to mass confusion on Twitter as locals identify that name with the more famous ‘Central Silk Technological Research Institute’ and ‘Central Silk Board’, located at the intersection of the Outer Ring Road and Hosur Road, where the Yellow Line is being built.

After this section opens to riders on January 15, the Green Line will become 30 km long connecting Hesaraghatta Cross (Nagasandra) with Silk Institute (Anjanapura) through 29 stations, and the city’s network will become 48.1 km large.

Silk / Sericulture Institute is a good 800 meters away from the station. Talaghattapura North and Talaghattapura South would have worked better IMO

They should have named it as Anjanapura itself or some other prominent village name near by.

Anjanapura township confusing, since anjanapura bda layout exists already from konanakunte cross(signal). People gets confused as if metro goes anjanapura layout. For example, (as I heard/ experienced enquiries inside metro before 23-03-2020) people bound to byappanahalli comes to byanapalya and get down at yelachenahalli.
