Bids Invited for Chennai Metro Line-4’s Poonamallee Depot

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) today invited tenders (bids) for the construction of a train depot at Poonamallee for Chennai Metro’s new 26.09 km Line-4 which will connect Light House with Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations.

This is the first of two depots planned in the  118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project, and will be used to stable and maintain the line’s 78 3-coach train-sets for which bids were invited in December. The project’s other mega depot at Madhavaram in north Chennai will be used for lines 3 and 5. A smaller stabling yard at SIPCOT is no longer part of the plans.

The depot’s design details such as the number of stabling, workshop, inspection lines wasn’t mentioned in the basic tender notice and remains unknown at this time.

The depot lies just north of the Poonamallee Bypass Station in west Chennai. This tender notice is so far the 12th tender notice for Phase 2’s civil work and 3rd for Line-4.

    What’s about Patna metro underground section??
    Are we going to get it on 13 January or date have been extended..
    How many days it will take this underground section to move in the category of under-construction..

      Technical bid opening is currently scheduled for the 14th. I don’t know if DMRC will extend or not – we will have to wait and see.

      Rough timeline if tech bids get opened:

      Q2: financial bid opening to decide winner
      Q3: start of basic enabling ground-work / mobilization / utility shifting
      Q4: start of construction

      Hate to break it, but the submission deadline got moved to Feb 17 and opening is now on Feb 22. Most likely has to do with the silly plan to consolidate depots (MMRDA is likely waiting for govt. clarity) than actual bidder inquiries.
