Besides Package UG-02, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) yesterday also invited tenders (bids) for the construction of Package UG-01 – the easternmost underground section of the city’s new 26.09 km Line-4 (Light House – Poonamallee Bypass).

A list of all Chennai Metro Phase 2 tenders (civil, systems) and their status can be viewed here.
Chennai Metro Phase 2’s very first tender notice was out in January 2020, so CMRL has been able to wrap up the 1st basic step of the tendering process in just 13 months. In comparison, Delhi Metro Phase 4’s 1st tender notice was out in July 2019 and notices for 4 civil packages are still pending. Bangalore Metro Phase 2’s 1st tender notice was out in June 2014 and the very last one for its underground section was out in June 2017.
From here on, things will move to opening technical bids, evaluating those bids and finally opening financial bids to find out the contractor for each. Here’s to hoping there are no hiccups along the way!

Thanks for the credit !
Even though the first tender was published in jan2020, there was a six month gap due to Covid . All the remaining tenders were published in a span of just 7 months . Considering the scale of the project (119km), it is great that all tenders were published in such a short span of time. I hope not just the tenders but the construction too will be carried in such a way that it is completed within the deadline ( at least the elevated stretches ).
True. CMRL seems to have a way with tenders. If anything, BMRCL is much slower in this regard. I’m guessing CMRL Line 4 will probably be completed before BMRCL’s Phase 2B Airport line.
Cheers 🤞

It has been stated that Line 3, 4 will use ICF rakes
While line 1 will continue with ICF ones and Line 2 with BEML ones
Line 6 will have CRRC Dalian rakes
But Dalian rakes were meant for line 1 so how could it be used for line 6 as both have different signalling systems
According to sources, Metro Rly will equip CRRC Dalian Trains with CBTC Signalling System. Upon upgradation these trains will not run at N-S Line. They believe that Dalian trains will be operate better if deployed at New Goria-Airport Metro Line. They also stated that Railways is in talks with BEML to supply further 28 Broad Gauge metro Trains for New Goria-Airport Metro.
For Line 3 (Joka-Esplanede Corridor) The Rolling Stocks was supposed to be manufactured by a Joint Venture of ICF-CRRC ZhouZhou. But After the India-China Conflict. It seems like railways is wanted to procure metro trains on their own. Either from ICF,Medha,BEML or Titagarh Wagons.
Things are up in the air without much clarity on the path forward. One of those wait and watch type of things.
