VNC-KEC Begins Work on Delhi-Meerut RRTS’ Duhai Depot

Besides Afcons starting work on the 82.15 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS line’s 1.35 km Yamuna Bridge, another construction milestone was recorded in January. Workers from Vijay Nirman Company – KEC International JV started site preparation work on the line’s important Duhai Depot (Package 5A) in Ghaziabad District.

Duhai Depot along with Modipuram Depot (tender notice pending) will be used to stable and maintain this semi high-speed line’s 210 coach Alstom (which acquired Bombardier Transportation) rolling stock. A smaller stabling yard is planned at Jangpura in Delhi where a few train-sets will be stabled overnight for the first few morning services.

Since January, VNC-KEC has hired engineers and workers for different positions, mobilized machinery and brought in construction material on site. Here’s a snap shot yesterday, shared by a follower, with a partial view of the depot’s site:

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) awarded Duhai Depot’s Rs. 279.07 crore construction contract in December 2020 after VNC-KEC placed the lowest bid in September. They will be chasing a 2 year deadline which aligns well with the NCRTC’s March 2023 deadline to commission the 18 km priority section (Sahibabad – Duhai).

Although work on the priority section started in 2019, work on the depot couldn’t begin due to land acquisition hurdles which resulted in NCRTC scouting and finalizing a new location in the vicinity of the original location at Madhuban-Bapudham Village as late as September 2020.

The depot’s finalized location remains unknown, but it will come up close to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway’s interchange with NH-34 on the northern-end of 18 km priority corridor section (Sahibabad – Duhai EPE). This is where APCO-CRFG JV’s Package 2 ends and Larsen & Toubro’s Package 3 begins.

Update: Duhai Depot will be built at Santhli & Bhikanpur villages – view layout.

Technical details of the depot’s stabling/workshop lines are still unknown at this time. If anyone is aware of the new/current plan, leave a comment below or shoot me an email and I can add them in here.

    Hi,

I think that my comment didn’t get posted earlier (posting it again).

Good to know that the construction activities have started for Duhai Depot. Hope the delays won’t affect the project completion timelines much. So, did the NCRTC finally able to convince the famers for acquiring their land in Duhai and nearby villages? Or did they get land in Madhuban Bapudham by GDA?

Thanks for keeping us updated on such important development projects.

Hi, no idea. There were at least 4 sites in contention. I’m trying to get confirmation.

Wish the image was larger. But from what I can make out – it’s confirmed to be coming up at Santhli & Bhikanpur villages.

            Hi,

Thanks for quick reply and update. This is helpful. I wasn’t expecting to get updated so soon.

I think that they have finally now convinced the farmers for the land acquisition. Any idea on how much land they are now acquiring in villages Duhai, Sainthili & Bikhanpur (tried to read that on the image but it’s not very clear)? Read couple of news articles few months back that they have changed the plan and reduced the amount of land required in and around Duhai.

            Thanks!
