MahaMetro Takes Over Navi Mumbai Metro’s Pending Work

After a joint site visit to different facilities, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on Tuesday formally handed over the 11.10 km Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1’s pending construction & system engineering work to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro).

The decision to appoint MahaMetro as the Chief Engineer to the project, which will connect CBD Belapur – Pendhar through 11 elevated stations, was announced in early January 2021. CIDCO will continue to own and monitor the project’s progress.

Core civil work on the line is complete with systems and architectural finishing work pending at its 11 stations located at CBD Belapur, Sector 7, CIDCO Science Park, Utsav Chowk (Khargar), Sector 11, Sector 14, Central Park, Pethpada, Sector 34, Panchanand, and Pendhar.

As shared earlier – trial runs began using CRRC Zhuzhou train-sets within Taloja Depot in August 2019 and on the main-line to Pendhar Station in September 2019. I still haven’t heard or read of testing being extended the other way towards Sector 34 though.

A new deadline for starting commercial operations has not been announced, but with MahaMetro now onboard, things should start moving along opening up the possibility of a mid-2022 partial opening of at least the northern section. I’m excited to see how things progress from here on.

    Indian Postman have said that the line may open Between Taloja to Central Park. But Maha Metro will mainly focused to open the entire line at once.Is it possible to open the line in Phases?

      Not sure who that Indian Postman is, but Central Park – Pendhar is in a more advanced stage of completion, so entirely possible to open in phases. That’s where the crossover is. All contracts (civil/finishing) have been structured to have Central Park as the start/end.

    CIDCO is at its worst for metro work in navi mumbai. With numerous delays in completion dates, we lost hope if this will even be completed ?

    Plz add update on Samruddhi expressway connecting Mumbai with Nagpur. Its biggest infra project with no news whatsoever in media about the progress (or lack of it³)

      Project has already been tendered out, so not much for me to cover. For images/videos of progress – recommend checking out Twitter or YouTube.

    Finally, the project is now in better hands after too many delays over the years. Hope that it will be completed and becomes operational very soon.
