Mumbai Metro Line-4A’s 1st U Girder Launched by J Kumar
In the early morning hours of Thursday, J Kumar Infraprojects launched the first of 296 U-girders for Mumbai Metro’s Line 4A (Green Line) on Ghodbunder Road in Owale, Thane West.
This feat on top of piers P12-P13 LHS was achieved 3.5 months after the first pier cap was erected, which isn’t a stellar record as other contractors in Mumbai and elsewhere around India have typically started launching a month after.
This small 2.88 km northern extension of the 32.32 km Line-4 will connect Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh through new 2 stations at Gowniwada and Gaimukh. The contract for its construction through Package CA54 was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects in September 2019 with a value of Rs. 342 crore.
Some images shared by J Kumar’s launch manager and follower Adarsh Agarwal:
Due to Mumbai’s challenging site conditions typically the first girder has been launched 12-18 months after contracts are issued, and this fits right at the 18th month – again nothing too stellar to report here.

Meanwhile, here’s a look at Line-5’s new viaduct by Afcons Infra. Launching had started on this past Sunday near Balkum Naka Metro Station’s site in Thane
