Back in December 2020 the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had announced its board’s approval to lend USD 500 million (approx. Rs 3680 crore) for both phases’ development. In March 2021, JICA and the government signed a Rs 3,717 crore loan agreement to develop Phase 2’s Pink Line, Phase 2A & 2B.

With this decision formally announced, let’s how quickly work orders are issued for developing Phase 2A. Back in October 2020, Afcons and Shankaranarayana had emerged as the lowest bidders for its construction, while bidding is currently underway for Phase 2B’s 3 mainline packages with a current bid submission deadline of May 14.

Finally got much needed approvals from union government . Now BMRCL can start ground work as tenders are already floated and 90% of land acquisition of 2A route is done. Also 2A construction should be faster because no private buildings demolition required.

On a related note, I was reading about the SP group-Tata group tussle. Afcons is a Shapoorji Pallonji group company, which I didn’t know before.

I hope because of the continuing tussle and SP group’s debt problems, SP group doesn’t go down taking Afcons along with them.

    Hi
Do you have the design for the metro lines near Tin Factory junction? I live nearby and I can’t for the life of me figure out how they’re planning on constructing three lines there.

I saw some news articles stating that the ORR stations wouldn’t have a concourse to save station building time…only found one payblocked article stating it though and no information anywhere else

Are they planning on using U-girders for this line? I thought I read that somewhere a while ago.

ADB’s EIA document says regular precast segments will be used in 2B. Direct quote:

“The most widely used precast segmental box girder with post tensioning
superstructure was selected for the viaduct of this project considering ease of
construction and standardization of the form work for wide span ranges.”

Oh okay. I wonder what “ease of construction” means in this case. Wouldn’t it be quicker/simpler to install U-girders which are made off-site? Anyway, you can look forward to lots of updates from this stretch, since it’s right at my doorstep 🙂

Segments are also made offsite. U-girders are quick to install when there’s lots of room for cranes to maneuver. The highway section of this line is a good candidate.

          Looking forward to your snaps!

@TMRG Do we have any fair idea, whether there will be station beyond KIA terminals.

As I see that’s how Delhi Airport terminals are connected, in that way it gives a connectivity to Airport for a section behind the airport, otherwise they might have to take a round about of 10-15 kms to reach airport.

Let me know if you have any idea.

In Phase 2B, the line will end at KIA Terminals.

Structurally, I’m pretty sure they will have the contractor build a permanent TBM launch shaft at its extreme eastern end to allow for a future extension beyond the airport, if needed.
