September 27 Update: IRB Infrastructure Developers has been awarded Package 4 of Chittoor – Thatchur Expressway with a value of Rs 909 crore.

Original Post: 9 construction firms have submitted bids to construct Package 4 of the 116.1 km Chittoor – Thatchur Expressway (NH-716B), after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opened technical bids for its retender on Tuesday.

This will allow allow for direct connectivity to Kamarajar (Ennore) and Kattupalli ports and also give travelers from Bengaluru another route option at Chittoor to travel to North Chennai.

NHAI originally invited tenders for Package 4 in January 2021 with a 4 year deadline. PSK Infrastructures & Projects emerged as its lowest bidder in April, but the tendering process was cancelled as their bid was 24% higher than NHAI’s estimate. Bids for it retender were invited shortly after.

  • Adani Road Transport
  • Aurobindo Realty and Infrastructure
  • BVSR Constructions
  • DRA Infracon
  • DP Jain and Company
  • IRB Infrastructure Developers
  • KNR Constructions
  • NSPR Constructions
  • PSK Infrastructures and Projects

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

    Hey TMRG ,

Currently in and around chennai , there are three expressway projects.. Chennai- bengaluru , chittor – thatchur , Chennai peripheral Expressway ..
Apart from that there is a 20 km long elevated expressway which is infamous for being stalled for more than a decade after the construction was halted midway due to change in government..
Since now a double decket version of the elevated expressway is being redesigned.. it wud be great if you have a page for it and post updates about it as well.. since it as NHAI Project which is being given utmost importance by the current govt and also by Nitin Gadkari..

Thanks.. hoping to see the page with info soo

Its the Chennai Port- Maduravoyal Expressway… connecting the port with chennai benagluru highway and chennai bypass .. its of utmost importance as it allows good vehicles to exit the city during the daytime as it is not allowed to use the ciry roads during daytime.

Hi, I’ve heard of that project but haven’t actively looked into finer details. Will take a look. To get me a head start – any idea about its packages / assigned contractors? I’m assuming old contracts have been cancelled and this will be retendered?

Its already approved by the union govt. and also found a spot in the budget allocated to highways in tamil nadu . Last year it also got clearence from CRZ since a majority of the viaduct runs on the banks of the cooum river.
Incidentally, it was also stalled a decade ago due to the same reason that it has its pillars erected on the river banks.
