CMRS Inspects Bangalore Metro’s Kengeri Extension

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on Tuesday started its 3-day statutory final safety inspection of Bangalore Metro’s 7.5 km Mysore Road – Kengeri section which’ll extend the Purple Line south-westward.

The CMRS led a 5 member team to inspect passenger amenities and control room facilities across all 6 six elevated stations along the route – see a detailed scheduled below.

In the coming days, the team will inspect the line’s viaduct via a motor-trolley tour and installed systems (signaling, electrical, track), and finally participate in speed trials on Thursday where the line’s BEML trains will clock speeds of 90 kmph.

This second section of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project will first connect Mysore Road with Kengeri through 6 new stations and later to Challaghatta Station in 2023 which lies across NICE Peripheral Road.

The 6 new stations are named Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Jnana Bharathi (formerly Bangalore University Cross), Pattanagere, Kengeri Bus Terminal (formerly Mailasandra) and Kengeri.

I’ll add more images here when they become available.

August 10 Schedule

August 11 & 12 Schedule

Approvals from the CMRS are typically conditional in nature and CMRS’ report should be submitted by early next week, so we’ll have to wait and see what conditions are laid out for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) to begin operations.

Recent videos and images from inside this section’s stations can be viewed here (captured during BMRCL’s MD’s recent visit), here (Kengeri Station), and on Starworth – the architectural finishing contractor’s Twitter page here. Older images shot in April – when trial runs started – can be viewed here.

Once this elevated section becomes operational, the existing 18.10 km Purple Line, connecting Baiyyappanahalli – Mysore Road, will become 25.60 km long and the entire Bangalore Metro network will become 55.60 km large – surpassing Chennai Metro’s 54.10 km network to once again become the 3rd largest in India.

  2. Anirudh Kulkarni says:

    Bro, 3 questions 👇
    1) Till now, how many Metro sets has BEML delivered to MMRDA ?
    2) When will CRRC start delivering train sets to BMRC ?
    3) I have heard that NHSRCL will submit final Delhi-Varanasi HSR DPR to Railways in September, will DPR be in public domain just MAHSR on NHSRCL’s website??,please ask your sources.

    • Clevin Gomes says:

      1. Right now, BEML have delivered 2nd Rake to MMRDA for Mumbai Metro.
      2. CRRC is expected to start deliveries to Banglore Metro by June 2022. 1st 9 Trains will be built in CRRC’s Nanjing Plant in China and rest 27 will be built at their Sri City Plant which is Under Construction.

    • TMRG says:

      Clevin answered 1 & 2

For 3, we’ll have to wait and watch. Pretty certain the draft DPR won’t be made available.

  3. C S Ramakrishnan says:

Let me know, when nayendahalli to Kengeri metro is going to run

  5. The Indian Railway Guy says:

Hi TMRG, any updates on Namma Metro’s blue line? Ground work was supposed to start many months ago, and I believe it has, but considering BMRCL’s stellar punctuality records, I’m willing to wait for another 5 years until I see some actual construction work going on. I won’t be surprised if it only becomes operational in 2045 or something.

Also, how’s the Pink line progressing? Is that new company any better than Simplex?

    • Nihar says:

I can confirm that construction work has begun for the Blue line (I live two mins from the ORR). They have barricaded off multiple sections including entry/exits at flyovers. Deep excavation is also visible, so they seem to have completed the soil testing phase.

    • TMRG says:

GR Infra was just given a LOA on Aug 6.

They have absolutely no experience in metro projects, so will have to see how this plays out. Really depends on their team composition – if they hire the right PM and engineers. I know they started recruiting in July-end.

  6. Shivalinga says:

When will be open or innagradution from Mysore road to Kengeri any updates from you sir??

  7. Clevin Gomes says:

TMRG, any idea which company have got contract to Construct Metro Stations From Belapur Terminal to Central Park of Navi Mumbai Metro?

  8. Sandeep says:

When according to you will the phase 2b contracts be handed over..
Recently even the anjanapura depot work was also awarded so now only phase 2b work pending to be awarded in the pending list

    • TMRG says:

Hi – first step is to complete technical bid evaluation. Not sure when BMRCL will do that. Haven’t heard anything on this.

Next step would be to open financial bids, evaluate and award to lowest bidder. Expecting this last step in the process to be completed in Q4 2021.

  9. Arun Shankar C says:

    Hi @TMRG,

Can I please know what will be your current estimate for inauguration of Biappanahalli to Whitefield metro and Full yello line?
