Tunnel Boring Machine S81 operated by Gulermak – Tata Projects Ltd. JV today arrived at Budhwar Peth Station on Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Purple Line (PCMC – Swargate).

This Ø6.61m Terratec EPB machine nicknamed Pavana was commissioned from Swargate Station in March 2021 to build the approx. 2144m up-line tunnel with 1532 tunnel rings. Along the way it passed through Mandai Station’s station box where excavation is still underway.

This was S81’s first and final breakthrough for building the 2.74 km Package UGC-02’s tunnels between Swargate and Budhwar Peth. Overall, this was the 7th breakthrough on the entire 6.52 km underground section of Pune Metro Phase 1 between Range Hills Ramp – Swargate.

TBM S78, which built the up-line tunnel on the same route in August 2021 has been sent to Surat Metro to work on Gulermak – Sam JV’s 3.46 km Package UG-1 between Kapodra Ramp and Surat Railway Station. That tunneling job will be completed along with another new Terratec machine.
