6 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line-3’s Elevated OMR Section

6 construction firms have bid for constructing Chennai Metro Line-3’s first 10 km elevated package between Nehru Nagar – Sholinganallur after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) opened technical bids today for Package C3-CP08-EV-01/RT-01.

This is a retender of the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2‘s Package CP08-EV-01 which received 3 bids in July 2021 from L&T, KEC and JMC. That tender was canceled in December 2021 due to a major redesign of the line’s viaduct.

In the earlier design, a double-decker viaduct was to be constructed to carry OMR’s IT Expressway on level-1 and metro’s Line-3 on level-2. Now viaducts for both the metro and expressway will be built separately and located parallel to each other.

The scope of this corridor includes an approximately 10 km viaduct starting from a ramp south of Taramani Link Road Station with 10 stations on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).

CMRL re-invited bids for its construction financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in December 2021 with a 36 month deadline and an unknown estimate.

Bidders:

  • Dineshchandra R.Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd. (DRA)
  • GR Infraprojects Ltd. (GRIL)
  • Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. (HCC; likely in a JV with KEC)
  • JMC Projects India Ltd.
  • Larsen and Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • NCC Ltd.

Tender No.: CMRL/CON/PHASE-II/CORRIDOR3/C3-CP08-EV-01/RT-01/2021

Brief Scope: Construction of elevated viaduct (approximate length-10 km) including elevated ramp and ten (10) elevated metro stations at Nehru Nagar, Kandanchavadi Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettukuppam, PTC Colony, Okkiyampet, Karapakkam, Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and Shalinganagallur

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for its construction.

CMRL on Monday cancelled Line-3’s second / southern-most elevated package (C3-ECV-01) for similar design change reasons. That 10.13 km section connecting Sholinganallur and SIPCOT-2 consists of 9 stations and CMRL received 3 bids in July 2021. A re-tender notice should be out soon.

Why should they build Road and Metro Separately. Double Decker Corridor will be a great solution to reduce cost and Less space would be required. Why they change it?

this is for a stretch of 20km..with 20 stations.. so each station needs to have supertall escalators… high station means..a passenger wud spend more time to reach the concourse level..which wud add up travel time making it a hassle..and might prefer a bus/bike…also cost wise its high..

also..the eleavted corridor is planned for the future..to start constructio wud take time… hence they changed design

Dear CMRL and Shri TN FM,

We had given that there is a loss of INR 59 per Km for MTC bus.

Simple logic tells me that if MRTS is extended till Mahabalipuram takes the following turns
    Mahabalipuram to Chingelput
Thiruporur to Guduvancheri, intersecting the above.
    Kelambakkam to Vandalur.
    Neelangarai to Pallavaram.
Sozhinganallur to Medavakkam could have an elevated road travel with Link buses.

Then Velachery to Medavakkam and connect to Mambakkam and Medavakkam to Tambaram

Establish a Government Nagar in and around Mamallapuram and Move all Government offices including secretariat, all these consulates and have a big Superspeciality and a chain of schools.

This can reduce the cost to the exchequer for the bus transport.

Establish Last mile connectivity to the stations with huge parking lots at every alternate station.

Make Toll on the roads prohibhitively expensive

Have more e-Autos and e-Cycles with umbrella from the rear side

Image the travel time reduction, pollution reduction and loss reduction to the MTC.

And how people can travel quicker and faster.

These Metros without adequate parking lot and last mile connectivity can be a show piece.

Please publish an RoI including Losses due to our MTC per year.

For comfort add Coaches of AC in alternate trains on MRTS

Today nobody uses First Class compartments with so much expensive tickets.

I am very much sure that we can save a lot of money.

Metros are good to have but we should be socialist welfare first and cater to the needs later is my honest opinion.

Brilliant idea, perhaps at the same time I am against “Socialist formula” ‼️👆🏿 Socialist formula is a total failure entire world ‼️ example our India. Sorry Ramanathan, bjp only knows to make communal riots across the country and divide it’s people based on religion by spreading propaganda like Islamic love jihad, Christian forced conversion, etc… It purposely denied to support the dalits, the farmers, the minorities, the middle class, the poor, most of the punjabis, bengalis and south Indians… It only knows to bring conflicts between the Hindus and non-Hindus by bringing laws like beef-ban law, CAA-NRC law, anti-conversion law, etc and also by encouraging lynching of muslims, anti-hijab protests, screaming jai sree ram in the streets of a secular nation and politicizing every thing on the basis of religion…

And by the way, if you think bjp will come to power in TN in 2027, keep dreaming…

And one more thing, no one is tight lipped here, every one are practicing their rights of displaying their opinions freely without any restrictions. Even I can list hell lot of projects that are to be done by the central government which are still under proposal. So please don’t act as if the dmk and aiadmk has done nothing for the past many years. And if you weren’t acting, I’m pretty sure you never bothered to update yourself with the developments done across the state…
