3 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line 3’s Track Work Contract

3 firms have submitted bids to supply and install standard gauge tracks for Chennai Metro’s Line-3 after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) opened technical bids for Package CP18A-ATW-09 on Tuesday.

This new 45.813 km primarily-underground corridor of the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT via 49 stations.

This tender’s scope includes track-work between Madhavaram Milk Colony and Sholinganallur Station which is mostly underground and under construction by Tata Projects & Larsen Toubro. Back in April, Larsen & Toubro emerged as the lowest bidder to supply tracks for the line’s elevated Sholinganallur – SIPCOT section.

CMRL invited tenders for this systems contract, financed by JICA, in January 2022 with a Rs. 267 crore estimate and 1290 day deadline + 730 day (DLP).

Bidders

  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL)
  • Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd.

All 3 bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely supplier.

This weekend bids were opened for Line-5’s track-work – see bidders & scope. A list of all Chennai Metro Phase 2 civil & system packages and their status can be viewed here.
