5 Bidders for Mumbai Metro Line-5A’s Track-Work Contract

Five firms on Wednesday submitted bids to supply and install ballastless tracks on a 12.72 km section of Mumbai Metro Orange Line (Line-5) which will connect Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan through 17 stations.

Standard gauge tracks from this contract (Package CA-166) will be installed at Line-5’s western section, known as Line-5A, between Kapurbawdi – Dhamankar Naka and on the depot-line near Kasheli Station. This elevated section with 7 stations is under construction by Afcons Infrastructure via civil Package CA-28 since early 2020.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited bids for the track-work contract in February 2023 with a Rs. 108.41 crore estimate and 1.5 year installation deadline.

Bidders

  • Apurvakriti Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.
  • ITD Cementation India Ltd.
  • Paras Railtech Pvt. Ltd.
  • Rahee Infratech Ltd.
  • Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd.

Brief Scope: Design construction manufacturing supply installation testing and commissioning of ballastless track work in mainline from Kapurbawdi Station ch 301.373 m to Dhamankar Naka ch 13027.957 m including third track near kasheli station depot entry exit app.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely track-work contractor.

MMRDA is slowly chipping away at Line-5’s system and civil contracts. Back in March, Rithwik Projects was declared as the lowest bidder for Kasheli Depot’s civil contract. From what I hear, a LOA is yet to be issued.

If the tracks are only to be laid till entry/exit of Depot, who will lay tracks inside the depot? Will the Depot Track be ballast less or with ballast?
