SYSTRA Wins Kochi Metro Phase 2’s Electrification DDC Contract

SYSTRA MVA Consulting on Tuesday was declared as the lowest bidder for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract of Kochi Metro Phase 2‘s Third Rail electrification system.

This consultancy contract by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is the fourth significant pre-construction contract for Kochi’s Phase 2 which will feature a 11.2 km new elevated corridor, named Pink Line, with 11 stations connecting JLN Stadium – Kakkanad – Infopark (Smart City).

KMRL had invited tenders for it in January 2023 with an unknown estimate and expects the assigned DDC to be onboard for 1080 days (2.95 years).

Pink Line’s 11 stations will come up at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium (new station box next to Blue Line), Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal (formerly Kunnumpuram), Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ (Special Economic Zone), Chittethukara, KINFRA (formerly Rajagiri), and InfoPark / Smart City (connected to Kochi Water Metro).

KMRL’s estimate remains unknown to me, so I can’t provide an assessment on the possibility of SYSTRA being awarded a contract and what the next steps look like.

There’s been a lot of recent pre-construction activity for Phase 2 with Egis Rail in April getting declared as the lowest bidder for the station components’ DDC contract. A list of Kochi Metro Phase 2’s tenders and their status/contractors can be viewed here.
