Gurugram Metro’s HUDA – Cyber City Line Approved by Union Cabinet

The Indian Government’s Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a new 28.50 km elevated metro line in Gurugram (Gurgaon) connecting HUDA City Centre with DLF Cybercity through 27 stations.

The project, connecting New & Old Gurugram, was approved with a total completion cost of Rs. 5452 crore and deadline of 4 years. It will be executed by Harayana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) which will be reconstituted as a 50:50 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of the Government of India and Government of Haryana.

A couple pointers from the government’s PIB press release:

  • 90% land required is government land and 10% is private
  • Shifting of utilities has started
  • Talks are underway with European Investment Bank (EIB) and World Bank (WB) for a loan

The project’s 26.65 km main-line will connect HUDA City Centre and Cybercity via 26 stations, while a small 1.85 km spur will connect Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway with 1 station to provide connectivity to the depot.

Stations: HUDA City Centre, Sector 45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 72A, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai Village, Sector 9, Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5, Cyber City

Haryana Government’s cabinet had approved the project’s final Detailed Project Report (DPR) in August 2020 at an estimated cost of Rs. 6821.13 crore.

Besides an interchange with the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line and Gurgaon’s Rapid Metro, this line will likely have an interchange with the 106 km Delhi – SNB RAPIDX (RRTS) line at Udyog Vihar.

Back in May, HMRTC received 3 bids for the project’s Detailed Design Consultant contract GGNCCDD-15(R1). PIB’s press release indicates tendering is underway for assigning a General Consultant (GC), but I haven’t seen a tender notice for it. Considering its a circular line, dont you think there will be two interchanges with Delhi Alwar RRTS ?

That makes sense and would be ideal, but I don’t see that happening.

North side: both have a station planned in Udyog Vihar (west of Cybercity), so I imagine connectivity will be provided via a FOB.

South side at NH-48: RRTS’ station is planned at Rajiv Chowk, while this line’s station is planned 3 km south of it at Hero Honda Chowk. Both lines will intersect at Hero Honda Chowk, but there won’t be any interchange facility unless NCRTC adds another station, which I hope they do.

Yes .. NCRTC should add a station at hero honda chowk considering the next station from rajiv chowk as per current plan is kherki daula which is quite far away. In fact prakhar sahay even mentioned that there will be a RRTS station at the cloverleaf flyover of dwarka expressway – NH 8 intersection ? Is that right ?

Not according to the technical designs I’ve seen. Things can and will change by the time tender notices are published, so let’s see.

What happened to dwarka sec 21 – palam vihar metro link?? This article doesn’t say a word of it. Plus everyone wanted extension of delhi metros blue line and yellow line but govt has its own fancy of separate line.

That corridor is part of the future phase as per the tweet by Hardeep Singh Puri. So they are considering it but it’s not clear when and who will be building it.

What about Rezangla Circle. To Dwarka sector 21 is more important as it 8s near 5o the airport

Would this line be physically integrated with the RapidMetro line?

RapidMetro has only 3-coach metro stations – would this line use only 3 coach metro trains, or would the stations be enlarged? Also, would it use 750V third rail traction, same as RapidMetro rail?

Fail to understand one small thing, I don’t know why the planners cant see. Connect the rapid to airport. Connect the rapid to airport, connect the rapid to airport. It is hardly any distance and people will start using the existing airport line for travel to CP and travel time will be less and also burden on yellow line gets reduced. The Airport line gets passengers which they desperately need.

It will but after 2 interchanges.
Cybercity to Udyog Vihar (this new line)
        – Interchange –
        Udyog Vihar to Aerocity (RapidX)
        – Interchange –
        Aerocity to T3 (Airport Express)
Aerocity to T1 (Silver Line in the future)

Means no one is going to use this. Best case scenario would have been if airport express line was extended to gurgaon. But that seems off the charts now.

What about the Extension of Delhi Metro’s Blue Line in Ghaziabad? Why aren’t they considering it’s extension upto Sahibabad (which would facilitate RapidX too)
Also, Branch Line Extension upto Mohan Nagar (which would shift Huge Crowd from Rajiv Chowk and making Ghaziabad to Noida path easy).
I think These are the most important corridors need to be considered.

They are considering it but the issue is neither GDA nor UP govt have funds to construct the metro. GDA is already reeling under the loan it took for Hindon elevated road while UP govt funds are tied up in other infra projects (exoressways and all) in the state. Thats why there was an earlier plan to make a ropeway too which will be cheaper. But now that plan is junked and delhi metro existing lines will be extended from vaishali and noida. But for that, funding needs to be secured.
Maybe TMRG can shed more light on this.

    – I hope they make it underground – otherwise 4 years of sheer terror in terms of traffic torture !
    – Just one line ?? What about other sectors in Gurgaon / New Gurgaon / Manesar ?
    – Concern for citizens is lower in Haryana as compared to UP – metro expansion being one yardstick.

Govt is doing good but in my opinion
    1) yellow line should be extended to dwarka sector 21 a change in route is metro should cross railway road on sector 4 and 7 chowk with a station and than sector 5 station near mata mandir on mata road via sector 5 police station road
    2) rapid line should be extended to chawal camp ( future a ring metro parallel to upper dwarka expressway road and upper spr)
    3) airport line should be extended to manesar parallel to nh 8 (future Rewari)
    4) a new line should be built from aiims badsa via dwarka expressway to ghamrola toll via railway station Rajiv chowk Subhash chowk (future Sohna to najafgarh)
    5) blue line should be extended parallel to dwarka expressway and spr road cross rapid line and link blue to airport t3
    6) a new metro line for manesar imt ( future sultanpur lake to turu)
    7) a new line from gurgaon to faridabad start sector 4-7 chowk via jharsa and Amity University till bata chowk ( Noida and ghaziabad parallel to fng expressway)
