L&T wins Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train’s C3 Contract in Maharashtra

Larsen & Toubro was today declared as the lowest bidder to construct 135.45 km Package C-3 of the 508.17 km Mumbai – Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR Bullet Train) project by India’s National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL).

Elevated Package C3 will link Shilphata – Zaroli (chainage Km 21.150 – Km 156.600) in Maharashtra and includes 3 elevated stations at Thane, Virar and Boisar. The construction of Thane Depot will be carried out via a separate civil construction contract, Package D1, which received 4 bids in May.

NHSRCL had invited bids for C3’s construction in November 2022 with an unknown estimate and 1704 days (4.66 years) completion deadline. Technical bids were opened in April to reveal 4 firms (3 in a consortium) had submitted bids.

Note: NCC – J Kumar JV offered a 10.50% discount on schedules 1-8 of the financial bid sheet, while Afcons – KPTL JV offered a 16.45% discount on their entire bid value and was the only bidder to place a multi-currency bid.

This is L&T’s fourth win on the civil construction side of things. If awarded, they’ll be responsible for constructing 469.32 km (92.35%) of the main-line (Packages C3 + C4 + C5 + C6), all the way from Shilphata Ramp on the outskirts of Mumbai to Ahmedabad city’s south-side.

Package C3 is the longest of 3 civil packages within Maharashtra state and the final civil package of the entire project pending award. A list of all bullet train civil and system packages and their status can be viewed here.

    Most probably NCC-JKumar will get the contract at the offer price.

    No matter which company wins Engineers will be pressurised to do 13 hrs duty with Sat Sun working on low salaries🙂.
