9 Bidders for Kanpur Metro Line-2’s KNPCC-11 Underground Work

October 18, 2023 Update: KPIL – Gulermak is lowest bidder – see details

July 13, 2023 Original Post: 9 firms (3 in a consortium) have submitted bids for the underground civil construction work of Kanpur Metro’s 8.6 km Line-2 which will connect Rawatpur and Jaurali via 8 stations.

Kanpur Metro Phase 1’s underground package KNPCC-11 will connect Agriculture Depot with Double Pullia Ramp via 3 underground stations at Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pullia. I reckon this section with twin tunnels to be approximately 3.2 km long.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had invited bids for this contract in February 2023 with a Rs. 1025 crore estimate and 30 month deadline. Technical bids were opened today afternoon.

Bidders

  • Afcons – SAM India JV
  • DRA – Soma JV
  • Hindustan Construction Company (HCC)
  • ITD Cementation
  • J Kumar Infraprojects (JKIL)
  • KPTL – Gulermak JV
  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
  • Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (STEC)
  • Tata Projects Ltd. (TPL)

Package: KNPCC-11

Brief Scope: Design and Construction of TBM Tunnel, Cut and Cover Tunnel, ramp after Double Pullia, ramps in Agriculture Depot for main line and depot connections and three underground metro stations (viz. Rawatpur, Kakadeo and Double Pullia) including Architectural finishes etc. on Corridor-2 of Kanpur MRTS Project at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India india

This contract will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through a €650 million (approx. Rs. 5661 crore) loan approved in July 2020.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which should take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

Like Phase 1’s other 2 underground sections, UPMRC will likely require KNPCC-11’s contractor to use at least 2 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for constructing 6 tunnels.

This is the 1st of 2 civil packages of the city’s Line-2. The other package from Double Pullia Ramp to Jaurali will involve the construction of an elevated viaduct with 5 stations.

Overall, this is 32.38 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1’s 3rd underground section after Package KNPCC-05 (awarded to Gulermak-SAM JV) and KNPCC-06 (awarded to Afcons-SAM JV), both on 23.785 km Line-1 (IIT – Naubasta).

If you can also provide the list of pre-bid consultants along with the respective bidders then it would be quite useful information.

Most of cities are expanding their metro network rapidly except Jaipur due to apathy of govt…I know centre govt is equally culprit for not providing a single paisa to raj govt but state govt should come forward and allocate budget on its own if they seriously want to expand metro network of jaipur…Jaipur is 10th most populous city of India with a population of around 50lacs. Even after 8 years of launch of its first line of 9.63 kms, it is still running on a small line of 11 kms…it was only the 6th metro in india when launched in 2015 but sadly now the smallest network among 15-16 metros operational or under-construction…

If you want change to happen, then you may start a petition on change.org and petition to the Rajasthan State Govt., Jaipur Metro and other authorities concerned highlighting your request properly and in detail.

People living in areas where Metro connectivity is strong and easily accessible should just sell off their personal vehicles and completely switch over to Metro, only then the Authorities will be serious about future network expansions. Also it will reduce individuals’ personal carbon footprint drastically.

Because Jaipur metro has terrible ridership even in the opened section, no incentive for financers or the gov. to expand it rapidly.

You have mentioned that a metro station will be constructed at jarauli (Corridor-2), but in newspapers and other news outlets claim that barra-8 will be the last station, jarauli metro station mentioned by you is official news or otherwise.

What is officially last station to be constructed in line-2, i am confused.
