L&T and NCC Bid for Hyderabad Airport Metro Line’s Contract
Larsen & Toubro and NCC are the only 2 bidders for the civil construction and system procurement contract of Hyderabad Metro’s 31 km Airport Express Line after Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd. (HAML) opened technical bids on Thursday.
This semi high-speed rail line along Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be developed under Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 project. It will connect Mindspace Junction with Rajiv Gandhi International (Shamshabad) Airport via 10 stations – 9 elevated and 1 underground.
Trains on this line will run on an elevated viaduct for 28.5 km and underground for 2.5 km at the airport within Hyderabad Aerocity. Trains operating at a maximum speed of 120 kmph are expected to cover the distance from Gachibowli to RGIA in 20 minutes.
HAML had invited bids for this contract in May 2023 with a Rs. 5688 crore estimate and 36 month deadline. 13 firms had participated in the pre-bid meeting held on June 15.
Brief Scope: Design & Construction of Hyderabad Airport Express Metro Line from Raidurg Metro station to Shamshabad Airport Station (31 km) including Elevated Viaduct, 9 (nine) stations, E&M works, Track Works, supply and commissioning of Rolling Stock, Traction & Power Supply, Signaling & Telecommunications, AFC, etc. (link to tender notice)
10 stations (9 elevated & 1 underground) will be built at Mindspace, Raidurg, Biodiversity, Nanakramguda, Narasingi, TSPA Junction, Rajender Nagar, Shamshabad Junction, Airport Cargo and RGIA Terminal (only underground station).
Both bids will now be evaluated by SYSTRA – RITES – DB Engineering JV (General Consultant) and HAML’s officers which will take about a month to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
As mentioned in the past, the scope of this contract – with civil and systems work clubbed together – is unprecedented so I’m super curious to see who L&T and NCC partnered up with for various systems. For Hyderabad Metro’s 67 km Phase 1, L&T had signed up with Hyundai Rotem for rolling stock and Thales Group for its CBTC signaling system.

L&T will be the better option in terms of logistics and operations, because they already operate rest of the metro network in Hyderabad
I don’t understand why this express line start at the edge of the city – wouldn’t a more central position (like Secunderabad railway station) be more advantageous?
You already have metro connecting all the central areas including secunderabad, it would be very costly to start from there, again so many delays owing to land acquisition
But isn’t the entire purpose of a metro to connect what it is supposed to and bring down changeovers as much as possible? Look at what happened to the Orange Line of the Delhi metro!
I feel the line can actually have a branch line connecting other important areas.
Since L&T is well established in the business of Metro Rail construction they should be given this project too with an extention to develop Kondapur to BHEL line. People will really be benefitted.
I am sure NCC is also equally strong like L&T.
Even KNR have excellent capacity in civil works
@TheMetroRailGuy Can you provide the details of Bidder for Bhopal & Indore Metro Tenders??

it appear that the tender was opened and L&T seems to be the party? Is it true?
Look like NCC will be awarded this contract..
Can you please update Hyderabad metro page with the new lines that were approved by the state cabinet
