Chennai Metro Phase 2: ST Engineering Awarded Platform Screen Door Contract

Another contract down! Singapore’s ST Engineering Urban Solutions Ltd. in November was awarded Chennai Metro Line-3 & Line-5’s Platform Screen Door contract (Package ASA12A) by Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL).

Both these under construction lines of 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram – SIPCOT (45.4 km Line-3) and Madhavaram – Sholinganallur (44.6 km Line-5) with a mix of elevated & underground stations.

Platform screen doors (PSDs) with half-height will be installed at all elevated stations for enhancing passenger safety with primary goals to prevent suicides & accidents during passenger movement.

The scope of this contract includes Line-3’s 10 elevated stations between Sholinganallur Lake – SIPCOT 2, awarded to RVNL in January 2023, and Line-5’s 29 elevated stations between Grain Market – Elcot which are under construction by HCC – KEC JV and Larsen & Toubro.

The final contract value including tax and duties is approximately Rs. 159.97 crore, a combination of INR 108.85 crore + USD 6.24 million

CMRL awarded ST Engineering with this package’s contract after two rounds of bidding. ST was the only bidder when CMRL opened technical bids for the original tender in February 2023 and re-tender in August 2023.

Brief Scope: Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Platform Screen Doors for Corridor 3 (Sholinganallur Lake to Sipcot 2) and Corridor 5 (Grain Market to Elcot) of CMRL Phase II.

CMRL has another tender (Package ASA09) for PSDs on Line-3’s Nehru Nagar – Sholinganallur section and Line-5’s Assissi Nagar – Koyambedu section. Bids are currently scheduled to open on December 27, so stay tuned.
