Track Work Begins for Bangalore Metro Pink Line’s Underground Section

Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. today began casting the track plinth inside the underground tunnels of 21.386 km Bangalore Metro Pink Line (Reach 6) project which will connect Nagawara – Kalena Agrahara.

This 13.885 km underground section of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project connects South Ramp, located south of Dairy Circle Station, with Nagawara Station via twin tunnels and 12 underground stations.

Tracks for the line’s standard gauge track system had started arriving onsite at Larsen & Toubro’s Package RT-02 this summer, following which Texmaco’s workers began flash-butt welding them together. Work today began to finally install those tracks on which 16 trains supplied by BEML from contract 5RS-DM will be operated.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) had awarded Texmaco with Phase 2 project’s Rs. 521.76 crore track-work contract in July 2018. Their scope involves installing ballastless tracks within all elevated viaducts & tunnels, and ballasted tracks within the project’s 5 new depots.

Texmaco will be installing a high attenuation low vibration track system on roughly 9 km (18 km total) to mitigate vibrations from train movement and protect buildings above. This mass spring system will be similar to the ones installed on the Delhi Metro Violet Line’s heritage corridor (ITO – Kashmere Gate) and on Mumbai Metro’s Line-3.

Per BMRCL’s December 2023 newsletter, 20.11% track plinth casting work has been completed so far – all on the 7.5 km elevated section connecting South Ramp – Jayadeva – Kalena Agrahara where work for its viaduct’s construction is underway by GR Infraprojects.
