Bids Invited for Bhubaneswar Metro Phulapokhari Depot’s Contract BBC-02

Bhubaneswar Metro’s first major civil construction tender notice is out! The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday invited bids for the construction work of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase 1 project’s Depot & Workshop (Package BBC-02).

This train stabling & maintenance facility will be built on a 16 hectare parcel in Phulapokhari. It will house an undisclosed number of 3 coach trains (rolling stock) for servicing Bhubaneswar Metro’s 26 km Line-1 which will connect Trisulia Square – Biju Patnaik Airport via 20 elevated stations.

The brief scope includes design and construction of pre-engineered buildings (PEB) for workshop, stabling & inspection sheds. The work also includes construction of substructure i.e. foundations, pits, grade slab, RCC columns, beams etc. for PEB buildings and construction of RCC buildings.

  • Deadline: 36 months (3 years)
  • Estimated Cost: Rs. 104.74 crore
  • Pre-bid Meeting: February 16, 2024 at 11 am
  • Bid Submission Deadline: March 6, 2024 at 3 pm
  • Technical Bid Opening: March 7, 2024 at 3 pm

DMRC’s Brief Scope: Civil Works for Construction of Bhubaneswar Metro Depot Cum Workshop, OCC Buildings including Plumbing, Drainage, External Development Works etc. and Road Works of Bhubaneswar MRTS Phase-I Project.

The 36 month construction deadline to me sounds extremely long and relaxed. For comparison with other ongoing projects, UPMRC set 18 months for Kanpur Metro Line-2’s Agriculture University Depot, BMRCL also set 18 months for Bangalore Metro Blue Line’s Airport Depot, while GMRC set 20 months for Surat Metro Line-2’s Bhesan Depot.

Anyways, back in December 2023 Lisha Engineers was declared as the lowest bidder among 3 firms to build a precast boundary wall (Package BBC-01) around Phulapokhari Depot’s land. I haven’t heard of a contract being awarded yet.

A tender notice is currently pending for assigning a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for the main-line, so I reckon we’re at least 10 months away from seeing construction work starting on the line’s viaduct.

Nice to see the development. I think the govt is trying to issue the tenders before the announcement of elections (Odisha goes to assembly election along with LS election).

No requirment of metro in Bhubaneswar.
Only symbol of standard. According to the survey on different metro🚇 stations over india only DMRC is worth .
