Cengrs Awarded Gurugram Metro HUDA – Cyber City Line’s Geotechnical Contract

Cengrs Goetechnica last week was awarded a Rs. 53.90 lakh contract for the geotechnical soil investigation of a new 28.50 km elevated metro line in Gurugram (Gurgaon) connecting HUDA Millennium City Centre with DLF Cybercity.

This entirely elevated line with 27 stations in new & old Gurugram was approved for construction by the Indian Government’s Union Cabinet in June 2023. Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) then invited bids for its first of two geotechnical contracts in December 2023 with a 112 day deadline.

The scope of this contract includes investigating the soil’s profile along the line’s 12.76 km alignment between Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 as suggested by the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by RITES.

The results from Cengrs’ investigation will be included within the civil construction tender documents to help infrastructure companies make more informed financial bids and use appropriate machinery, methods & technology during construction.

Brief Scope: Geotechnical Investigation for the 12.76 kms portion with 13 Stations from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 (incl.) of Elevated Corridor (28.5 km) from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City (26.65 kms) with a spur (1.85 km) to Sector 101 Gurugram

I hear the contract signing ceremony was held today.

The project’s 26.65 km main-line will connect HUDA City Centre and Cybercity via 26 stations, while a small 1.85 km spur will connect Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway with 1 station to provide connectivity to the depot.

Bidding is currently underway for the third time to assign the line’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC). In the first round, HMRTC received 1 bid, and in the second they received 3 bids. The current technical bid opening date is March 7, so the chances of construction starting in 2024 are now slim given the time required to prepare detailed designs and to conduct the bidding process for civil construction.

Apparently, the Haryana government is poor in planning and executing on development projects. It’s a shame that no construction would happen before the fourth quarter of this year despite getting Union govt’s approval in June 2023! Sadly, Gurgaon metro is one of the many examples of this incompetent government. What is even worse than this is the government’s ability to conceive and plan big infra projects, no surprise that precious CM Hooda mocked this government for the lack of development projects. The level of revenue that this state of 25 million people generates (primarily by its NCR cash-cows), it could have materialised big cutting-edge infra projects in all districts of the state over the last 8-10 years.
