Hyderabad Metro Old City Line’s Foundation Stone Unveiled
Telangana’s Chief Minister on Friday unveiled the foundation stone for Hyderabad Metro’s 5.5 km old city metro rail project comprising of 4 elevated stations between M.G. Bus Station (MGBS) and Falaknuma.
This elevated metro line was originally a part of the 72 km Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 project’s 15 km Green Line (JBS – MGBS – Falaknuma), but construction on it could never commence due to local politically-influenced protests over land acquisition and protection of heritage & religious structures.
The line will now be built under the 70 km Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project and will eventually be extended to Chandrayangutta X Road in the future.
The line’s alignment from the existing MGBS Station will pass through Darulshifa – Purani Haveli – Etebar Chowk – Alijakotla – Mir Momin Daira – Haribowli – Shalibanda – Shamshergunj – Aliabad and end at Falaknuma Metro Station.
Four new stations are planned to be built at Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Shalibanda and Falaknuma. Stations earlier planned at Shamshergunj and Jangamet are no longer being considered.
A small depot or stabling yard for trains was originally planned to be constructed in Falaknuma, but I haven’t heard or read it being mentioned as part of the new plan. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s been dropped.
More importantly, there’s no clarity on how this extension will be funded, and whether Larsen & Toubro as the PPP concessionaire, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Ltd (L&TMRHL), is onboard with executing the line. Their officials’ absence from the event and social media might offer a hint. The Lok Sabha elections are also right around the corner, so I wouldn’t read too much into this event.

Congratulations for our Honourable CM Revanth Reddy for laying foundation stone for metro rail from MGBS to Falaknuma. It’s a good decision by government as many commuters are benefitted traveling this route saving time n fuel. Also request our CM to consider metro connectivity towards northern parts of Hyderabad as this area is densely populated.
Who will be the supplier of rolling stock for HYD metro.
Which office will be floating the tenders for rolling stock
I don’t see them ordering new trains for this
There seems some issues , past 1 month i am unable to receive emails or posts from TMRG updates over my email [email protected]
That feature is currently broken. Trying to get it fixed, it’s been a frustrating experience.
That explains it. You’re on a roll with your posts but I am missing out on so many. I keep subscribing multiple times haha
Good decision cm reddy
Old city roads and traffic sucks. Very bad experience driving in hot summer. Hoping some air in metro

The main task is that tge construction should start asap.
If it is delayed until elections then it wont be constructed befor next elections
Metro on flyover will be best option to regulate old city traffic. inspite of widening of roads hawkers and illegal parkings will occupy major area of roads, and also continues religious processsions flyover will provide fast movement of traffic towards airport , srisilam highway etc.
