Geomardy Wins Mumbai Metro Line-11’s Geotechnical Contract
Geomarine Dynamics India Pvt. Ltd. (Geomardy) was today declared as the lowest bidder for conducting geotechnical soil investigation for 18 km Mumbai Metro Line-11 (Green Line) which will connect Anik Bus Depot – SPM Chowk via 15 underground stations.
The alignment of Mumbai Metro’s underground Line-11 was redesigned by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRC) earlier year. When built, it will be Mumbai city’s third underground line after Line-3 (Aqua Line) & Line-7A (Red Line).
The objective of this geotechnical investigation is to have sufficient data on the sub-soil to assist with preparing detailed design of structures, and use appropriate machinery, methods & technology during construction. This will also help ensure least possible damage to existing structures during the construction phase.
MMRC had invited bids for this contract in early August with a 90 day deadline and an estimate of around Rs. 1.52 crore. Technical bids were opened by MMRC in August-end to reveal 11 bidders out of which 4 firms did not qualify.

Genstru Consultants | 1.43 |
S & R Geotechniques | 1.47 |
CEG Test House And Research Centre | 1.63 |

MMRC’s Brief Scope: Geotechnical Investigation works for revised alignment of Mumbai Metro Line 11
Here’s a copy of Line-11’s revised alignment. 15 underground stations are planned to be built at Anik Bus Depot, Wadala Depot, CGS Colony, Ganesh Nagar, BPT Hospital, Sewri, Hay Bunder, Coal Bunder (Darukhana), Reay Road, Byculla, Nagpada Junction, Bhendi Bazaar, Crawford Market, CSMT Metro (interchange with Line-3 / Aqua Line), Horniman Circle, and SPM Circle.
Geomardy’s bid of Rs. 1.21 crore was 20% below MMRC’s estimate of Rs. 1.50 crore, so a contract should be awarded in the coming weeks without a long financial bid evaluation period. That said, in Q1 2025 we should start seeing their barricaded work sites with investigation tripods along the line’s alignment.
Per MMRC’s tender notice, boreholes of 150mm for geotechnical investigation should be spaced at regular intervals of 500 meters along the twin tunnel’s alignment with 3 boreholes required at each station’s site area. These boreholes will be dug up to a depth of 10m, between 10-20m, and beyond 20m per the consultant borehole plan.
If and when awarded, Geomardy will need to submit the following in their final report:
- Bore hole details and locations with georeferenced co-ordinates.
- Area geology and related characteristics
- Water table levels
- Test results
- Bore hole wise foundation recommendations
- Cutoff value
- Soil bearing capacities
- Seismicity
As shared in the past, this investigation is one of the several steps MMRC has to take prior to construction which I envision will not start until at least 2027 – and that’s on the optimistic side of the spectrum.
Other necessary steps including securing financing, preparing detailed designs, appointing a General Consultant, appointing consultants for EIA, SIA & rehabilitation, and conducting the civil tendering process.

Any news on Metro Line 12?
Nothing recently, haven’t even heard of the 1st pier coming up.
Groundbreaking was held in March 2024

Looks like MSRDC started awarding PRR & Jalna – Nanded E-Way Contracts. 2 contractor who were L1 bidder got LoA. No news on VAMMC & Samruddhi’s Eastern Extension
Cool, thanks I saw a bunch of announcements to BSE. Will update the info pages of each project as and when contracts are awarded.
Depot would be at Wadala? Or yet to be decided?
Map suggests Mkada Chawl in Koliwada, Sion

This is just west of monorail’s Wadala Depot
Cool, thanks!
I hope this time no Zoru is harmed for the carshed.
LOL
Metro Line 4 and Metro Line 6 in Mumbai have been under construction forever. Most congested areas like JVLR, Ghodbunder road, LBS Road are suffering due to the incomplete projects. Trains are still overcrowded and nothing has changed for the past 30 years. Roads are not concretised, in spite of repeated announcements by our Transport minister.
Metro 13 —-Date Month When actual work will start ??? Bhayander to Virar
Instead of considering these as separate lines they should just consider them as extensions of line 4 Green line. What’s the point of having 4/4A/10/11 numbers for a continuous Green line? MMRDA should follow a 1 colour 1 number naming pattern. There are 10 distinct colours so they should have numbered them 1 to 10 and constructed and opened them in phases 1,2,3 etc.
In future when most of the line will become operational everyone will call it by it’s color coded name not with the numbers.
