Toyota Wins Bangalore Metro Airport & Challaghatta Depots’ E&M Contract
December 9, 2024 Update: BMRCL has awarded Toyota with a Rs. 69,46,50,819.05 contract.
November 15, 2024 Original Post: Toyota Tsusho India Pvt. Ltd. (TTIPL) on Thursday was declared as the lowest bidder for electrical & mechanical (E&M) installation works at Bangalore Metro’s Challaghatta Depot and Airport Depot by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project’s Challaghatta Depot for the Purple Line is currently under construction along Mysore Road by RITES – Power Mech Projects JV through a Rs. 499.41 crore contract awarded in October 2022.
Bangalore Metro Phase 2B project’s Airport Depot at Doddajala or Shettigere for the Blue Line is under construction by J Kumar Infraprojects – AIC Infrastructures JV through a Rs. 182.33 crore contract awarded in March 2023.
The scope of this contract, Package 3 for both depots, includes system installation works such as electrical, cables, lighting, fire safety, HVAC works and UPS system installation.
BMRCL had invited bids for it in August 2024 with an 18 month deadline and an unknown estimate which I hear might be Rs. 73.90 crore. Technical bids were opened on October 1 to reveal 4 bidders and financial bids were opened on Thursday.
Financial Bid Values
Firm | Bid (Rs. Crore) |
Toyota Tsusho India Pvt. Ltd. | 69.46 |
Jakson Ltd. | 75.30 |
Blue Star Ltd. | 81.26 |
URC Construction Pvt. Ltd. | 93.60 |
BMRCL’s Brief Scope: Electrical and Mechanical (E and M) Works Comprising of L.T. Panels, L.T. Cables, Lighting, Hydraulics, Fire Safety Systems, UPS, DG Sets, HVAC for Depots at Challaghatta (Ph-2) and Airport (Ph-2B) under Package-3 of BMRCL Project Phase-2 and 2B.
BMRCL’s estimate remains unconfirmed to me but if it’s indeed Rs. 73.90 crore, then Toyota should be awarded a contract in the coming months without a long financial bid evaluation period.
As shared in the past – in the coming years Challaghatta Depot will become important in running smooth operations on the Purple Line, along with the Kadugodi Depot, when the existing Baiyappanahalli Depot gets re-purposed to serve the 57 km Blue Line connecting Silkboard – KR Puram – Kempegowda International Airport.

Any update on the trains for the yellow line. It is kind of pathetic how long the line is being delayed just because of the trains have not arrived yet.
I don’t expect full operations to begin before end of 2025. A skeleton service to save face may start earlier, with company entrusted to supply coached based in West Bengal it can’t move faster!
