Delhi Metro Begins Trial Runs on Pink Line’s Majlis Park – Maujpur Extension
Right before 2024 ended, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) quitely began trial runs (train testing) on a 5 km section of the 12.098 km Delhi Metro Pink Line Extension project connecting Majlis Park – Maujpur.
The route being tested includes the Majlis Park – Jagatpur Village section which includes 3 new elevated stations at Burari, Jharoda Majra and Jagatpur Village. DMRC ran one of their 6-coach Hyundai Rotem trains at a slow speed of 5 kmph out of Majlis Park Station’s siding line eastward and then back.
As always, DMRC’s primary goal was to check for Schedule of Dimensions (SOD) clearances and observe the train’s interaction with the civil structure to ensure there are no physical obstructions along the way.
This development in the 112.32 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project comes 5 years after Longjian – KEC JV was awarded Package DC-02’s Rs. 1,080 crore contract in November 2019.
Longjian – KEC JV was quick to erect their first pier cap in 11 months from the award of contract which came with a 30 month deadline, but things clearly went awry and off-track even with the COVID-19 related disruptions.
The consortium’s scope of work includes building the entire Pink Line’s 12.098 km viaduct, bridge over the Yamuna River (work on it began in June 2020), a PWD double-decker flyover and 8 stations at Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Sonia Vihar, Wazirabad Surghat, Jagatpur Village, Jharoda Majra and Burari.
This is the second section of the Phase 4 project to hit this major milestone after the Magenta Line’s 2.03 km Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension route (Package DC-06) which will open for commercial operations on January 5.
The line’s ballastless tracks were installed by Paras Railtech. I hear the signaling system by Alstom Transport is still fully not in place. This includes fixed signals, way-side signalling system and Automatic Train Protection (ATP).
There are plenty of train testing videos on YouTube. Here’s one of them by OMW77:
DMRC hasn’t publicly announced a plan or deadline for operationalizing this section, but it should happen in the second half of this year. I’m curious to see if the entire 12 km extension will open in one go or not.

They have installed Buffer stoppers on both up and down line tracks right before Jagatpur village station indicating that Majlis park- Jagatpur village section will be operationalized before Rest of the strech.
Also, as of now, There is very minimal work done on Soorghat, the very next station after jagatpur. So, no point of hoping for entire strech opening this year.
Why too slow work of golden line
Nice information
The surroundings in that image are just embarrassing. Hopefully more slum and colony rehab happens, because the 1600 homes that were built recently for rehab aren’t enough, the city needs 160,000.
Bro RRTS opening update ? And yes, as Yash mentioned, only this section which is undergoing trials will open for public first. As I saw in the latest update video from Detox Traveller, the remaining section civil works is pending quite a bit, specially Bhajanpur and Surghat station.
Hi TMRG, has tunnelling started in magenta line RK ashram-pulbangash section?
Nice to see this video here.
Golden line work should be expedited if it is to be ready by 2026
