IRCON – Jakson JV Wins Mumbai Metro Line-4’s Power Supply & E&M Contract CA-236
IRCON International – Jakson Ltd. JV on Wednesday was declared as the lowest bidder for the second major systems contract of Mumbai Metro’s 35.2 km Line-4 & Line-4A (Green Line) connecting Wadala – Kasarvadavali – Gaimukh.
This contract for Line-4’s systems under Package CA-236 includes commissioning the line’s power supply & traction system, electrical & mechanical (E&M) system, lifts and escalators at its 34 stations.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had invited bids for this mega contract in February 2024 with a Rs. 1212 crore estimate. Technical bids were opened in November 2024 to reveal 2 bidders.
Financial Bid Values
Firm | Bid (Rs. Crore) |
IRCON – Jakson JV | 1526 |
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) | 1646 |
MMRDA’s Brief Scope for Package-2 (CA-236): Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Integration, Testing and Commissioning of Power supply and Traction, Electrical & Mechanical and Lifts & Escalators including 15 years of Comprehensive Maintenance after 2 years of Defect Liability Maintenance Period for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Extension Corridor (4A) [WADALA-KASARVADAVALI-GAIMUKH] of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA.

IRCON – Jakson JV’s bid of Rs. 1526 crore was 25.90% higher than MMRDA’s Rs. 1212 crore estimate, so this will head to the negotiation table which will add more delays in an already-delayed project.
Looking at L&T’s bid – it’s highly unlikely that IRCON – Jakson JV would entertain a price reduction without a reduction in scope, so I hope MMRDA just bites the bullet instead of canceling & re-inviting bids as this line is crawling, just like all other MMRDA-owned lines.
This is Jakson’s second major win in the last couple months. Over in Bengaluru, they won electrical & mechanical contract E&M-6 for 28 stations of Bangalore Metro’s 57 km Blue Line connecting Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport.
In case you missed it – on Friday, L&T was declared as the lowest bidder for Line-4’s Package-1 (CA-234) which includes supplying rolling stock (234 coaches), CBTC signaling & train control (S&T), telecommunication, platform screen doors (PSDs), and depot machinery & plant (M&P) for Mogharpada Depot.
