SYSTRA Wins Bangalore Metro Phase 3’s Electrification Consultant Contract
SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd. on Friday was declared as the lowest bidder for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract of the 44.65 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3 project’s traction and power supply works.
Bangalore Metro’s Phase 3 in western Bengaluru includes the construction of a new 32.15 km Orange Line connecting Kempapura – JP Nagar 4th Phase via 22 stations along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), and a new 12.5 km line connecting Kadabagare – Hosahalli via 9 stations.
Like other lines of earlier phases, the new lines of Phase 3 will also be powered by a 750V DC Third Rail system. The scope of this design consultancy contract (Package EPDD-5) would typically involve designing all traction substations, auxiliary substations (along with power cables), 750V DC third rail system and SCADA system.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) had invited bids for this consultancy contract in October 2024 with a 730 day (2 year) deadline and unknown estimate. Technical bids were opened in January to reveal 4 bidders.

BMRCL’s estimate remains unknown to me, so I can’t provide an assessment on how SYSTRA’s bid is placed.
If awarded, this will be SYSTRA’s third major contract in Phase 3. Back in January, SYSTRA was declared as the lowest bidder for all 3 of the civil structure’s Detailed Design Consultant contracts. Since one firm could only win a maximum of 2 contracts per the tender’s rules, SYSTRA was subsequently awarded DDC-1 and DDC-3 while Assystem India (previously L&T Infrastructure Engineering) was awarded DDC-2’s contract.
At this time I’m expecting the first civil construction tender notice for Phase 3 to be published no sooner than Q4 2025. A list of all Bangalore Metro Phase 3 packages and their status / contractors can be viewed here.

I’ve never been to Bengaluru, but I just don’t understand building a ring line in two parts that will require 3 transfers to to get from the eastern part to the western part and vice versa on the south side. Not exactly rider friendly. From the Blue Line, a rider would first have to transfer at Silkboard to the Yellow Line, then transfer to the Pink Line at Jayadeva, then finally transfer to line 6 at JP Nagar to be able to complete the circular journey. That’s crazy. Line 6 has to be extended to Silkboard, even if it has to be underground.
For someone who has never been to Bengaluru … you know a lot about Bengaluru 🙂
Valid concern – something that bothers me as a Bangalore resident too. They extended the western ring line a bit further east so that a one-stop transfer to the Pink line would be possible, which suggests they are thinking about this. But I suppose the cost / complexity of extending the line to Silk Board over / under the lake is too much at the moment? But they also seem to shy away from more complex 3 / 4 line interchanges in general, so not sure. It’d be sad if they don’t eventually sort this out.
Indeed! Rather the Orange Line should hv come up at RV Road, as a Triple Interchange, with the Green and Yellow (like the proposed Hebbal Interchange Blue-Orange-Red). This would at least reduce the number of times to change lines from 3 to just 2 –
Orange-Yellow
Yellow-Blue
Or else, the orange line should be extended to Silk Board as a Triple interchange with Blue n Yellow
