6 Bidders for Thane Metro’s Construction Contract C-01

Six civil engineering firms have submitted bids for the first civil construction contract of the 29 km Thane Metro project after Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL or MahaMetro) opened technical bids on Wednesday.

Thane Metro is officially known as Thane Integral Ring Metro Project and will consist of 22 stations (20 elevated & 2 underground). The project was approved for construction in August 2024 by the Central Government’s Cabinet with a 2029 deadline and estimated total cost of Rs. 12,200 crore.

The scope of Thane Metro’s first civil contract, under Package C-01, includes the construction of most of the line’s viaduct (20.527 km), depot-line to Kasarvadavali Depot, and three special spans over Mumbai Metro’s Line-4 (Green Line) & Line-5 (Orange Line). The construction of metro stations enroute will be carried out under separate contracts for which tender notices are yet to be published.

MahaMetro had invited bids for Package C-01 in May 2025 with a Rs. 1424 crore estimate and a 30 month deadline which seems ambitious to me.

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When completed, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

Back in May, a consortium of AECOM India Pvt. Ltd. – Egis Rail S.A. – Doyen Engineeering Services Pvt. Ltd. was declared as the preferred bidder for the project’s General Consultant (GC) contract. I may have missed it, but I haven’t seen or heard of a LOA being issued to them yet.

When you say ambitious, are you talking about the cost or the 30 month time? Thanks, cause either of these seem a bit low

If you look at the unavailability part, i think 30 months itself would be required to acquire those land parcels where they are planning to build the metro. As said the cost and time both would be ambitious😜
