CMRS Approves Gurgaon Metro’s 7km Phase 2; Operations Start Today
What a pleasant surprise! This news came out of nowhere…
After recently receiving the mandatory safety approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon (RMRG) – the operator of Gurgaon’s Metro, will today flag off trains from the DLF Phase 1 station at 3pm to launch commercial operations on its new 7 km Phase 2 line. This 7 km extension consists of 5 new elevated stations and will extend the existing 5.1 km loop line around DLF Cybercity southward towards Sector 55-56 along the Golf Course Road.
The foundation stone for the line’s extension under the Phase 2 project was laid in October 2012, and in June 2013, IL&FS Engineering and Construction announced that they had been awarded a Rs. 266.5 crore contract to construct the line’s viaduct and stations. Between August 2015 – February 2016, RMRG received 7 new train-sets of 3 coaches from CSR Zhuzhou (Siemens’ subcontractor) to service the line, which they launched one after the other on top of the line’s viaduct – see a cool image here as well more images here:
• Train-set #6: First Train Arrives for PH2 of Gurgaon Metro
• Train-set #7 & #8: 3rd New Train Arrives for Gurgaon Metro’s 7 Km Phase 2 Project
• Train-set #9 & 10: Gurgaon Metro Receives 2 New Trains
• Train-set #11 & 12: Gurgaon Metro Receives & Hoists Last 2 New Trains
The viaduct’s last I-girder was launched in May 2016 (see image) and trial runs on the line commenced in December 2016. In addition to the DLF Cybercity Depot, RMRG will house, maintain and run trains from their new, larger Sector 53 Depot as well. The 5 new stations in Phase 2 of the line are located at DLF Phase 1, Sector 42-43, Sector 53-54, Sector 54 Chowk and Sector 55-56.

A RMRG official explained their train operation plan to the TOI:
We’ll begin our operations at 6.05am in three directions. The first train will leave sector 55-56 station for Sikanderpur and then on to Cyber City. The second train will leave Sikanderpur and head towards sector 55-56. The third train will start from Sikanderpur, and carry commuters alighting from Delhi Metro to Cyber City. The same schedule will be repeated at 00.36 hours past midnight, when the last trains leave.
To begin with, the trains will operate at a frequency of 4-5 minutes. However, this can be increased as per requirement. We have a total of 12 trains, of which two will be kept on standby, to be used whenever frequency needs to be increased. There are two depots right now — one near Cyber City, the other near Sector 54 chowk.
Here are some images of the line’s new viaduct I’ve previously shared via Twitter:
After operations start, Gurgaon’s Metro will become 12.1 km long – longer than Mumbai’s 11.4 km and Jaipur’s 9.63 km lines. Stay tuned for a post laden with new images from its launch!

At first, it appeared to be 1st of April prank (still not covered by major news channels). But, great news anyways!!
Hi TMRG
Any idea on the expected traffic .Currently only 30k people are using phase 1 against an estimate of 90k.
Hope this number reaches 2 -3 lakhs a day with phase 2
not possible it will be like 1.5 to 1.75 lakh
Hey TMRG,
Sir I want to know the real ongoing update about the proposed or approved metro lines in GURGAON.
That’s really came as a shock,
Figuratively a good shock that rapid metro phase 2 will inaugurate today without any CMRS formal inspection
But moreover
What about the plan of phase 3 of rapid metro?
Are they still waiting for iffco chowk dwarka line construction so they have a interchange?
So when dwarka iffco chowk metro actual construction will commenced?
And According to several reports they are now focussing on GURGAON BAWAL metro line.
Along with that they are Also planning of connecting old gurgaon with metro and I hearing this news for past 2 years
Even they are really confused on alignment
As well as they also planning to connect GURGAON with FARIDABAD through metro.
Some report suggest government has finalised the route and financial structure
But if yes then why they are delaying the much needed metro connections in the city of GURGAON..
Sir,
I am following you for past few months
But even you are very unsure about metro bizzare problem in GURGAON.
So I want to know your thoughts as a professional in metro system.
Because today GURGAON will see a extension if rapid metro phase 2..
But after that a big WHAT NOW?
Because no construction of metro is happening around the city..
So according to you what you see coming
Any other metro plan or actual construction?
But if actual construction then when and where??
Sorry for this long message
But its a frustration of each and every modern new name GURUGRAM people
Waiting for your reply sir….
Only you can make the picture clear….
Mr. TMRG, Where are you? Hope everything is fine with you. Why are you absconding? Please we are missing you. Your silence is killing us.
