Lucknow Metro’s TBM S52 Starts Tunneling towards Hussainganj
While political heavyweights and metro officials were celebrating the lowering of TBM S1073’s parts yesterday in Mumbai, Lucknow Metro’s engineers and their contractor Tata – Gülermak JV silently recommissioned their TBM S52 ‘Gomti’ at Sachivalaya Station’s southern end for building the 22.878 km Line-1’s 613m up-line tunnel towards Hussainganj Station.
This Ø6.52m Terratec earth pressure balance TBM was originally commissioned from the Sachivalaya Station’s northern end in January 2017 and made a breakthrough at Hazratganj Station in June following a 780 meter journey while encountering stiff to hard clayey silt and medium to dense silty sand. The TBM was then disassembled, hoisted out, transported and lowered back to the Sachivalaya Station for its 2nd of 3 drives.

LMRCL officials are confident of S52 reaching Hussainganj by the end of this year. Next month, its sister machine TBM S53 ‘Ganga’ will be recommissioned to build the parallel down-line tunnel on the same stretch.
Meanwhile, here’s a look at the progress made at the Charbagh Ramp from where both TBMs will be retrieved after their final drives –

So at this speed, shouldnt they be reaching charbagh ramp by march 18 end? If that is the case then at max one more year to clear the civil work from charbagh ramp to hazratganj ramp. And whats the status of the elevated section from kd stadium towards munshi ki pulia? Because i have seen the elevated section’s pillars are visible in the complete stretch. And TMRG please provide a mobile no. Option in this form also for updates.
After the breakthrough, the TBM might undergo maintenance and it’ll take some weeks for it to be dragged across the Hussainganj Station’s platform level to the other end for re-launch. Despite those activities, I do believe S52 will finish its job by mid 2018.
I don’t have any specific data points on KDSB-Munshipulia at this time.
When will the S53 tbm start tunneling on the same stretch?
I hear it started earlier this week, but I’m yet to get confirmation or any site images.
