Crossovers Cast for Delhi Metro Magenta Line’s Phase 4 Extension

Texmaco Rail and Engineering in the past month has completed casting 2 track crossovers for Delhi Metro Magenta Line (Line-8)’s 29.26 km Janakpuri West – RK Ashram extension.

Both crossovers with turnouts are located near Magenta Line’s Majlis Park Station, just west of the Pink Line’s operational Majlis Park Station. They’re being installed by Texmaco under Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 project‘s ballastless track-work Package DT-08.

These crossovers will enable the system’s existing Hyundai Rotem (RS10) and new Alstom (RS17) trains to guide from one track line to another when this extension is operationalized.

Prepping for casting

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had awarded Texmaco Rail and Engineering with Line-8’s Rs. 117.08 crore contract (Package DT-08) in January 2024 with a 3 year deadline.

Texmaco’s scope includes installing standard gauge (1435 mm) ballastless rails including supply of MSS and buffer stop between Keshopur – Majlis Park – R.K. Ashram (Ch. 2814.677m to Ch. 30061.24m).

More specifically, tracks will be installed at the viaduct of elevated packages DC-01A (Keshopur – Mangolpuri), DC-01 (Mangolpuri – Haiderpur-Badli Mor), DC-03R (Haiderpur-Badli Mor – Derawal Nagar), and inside the twin tunnels of underground package DC-05 (Derawal Nagar – RK Ashram).

The first 2.03 km section of the Magenta Line (Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension) is on the verge of opening anytime now. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) had performed a final safety inspection in July-end and I hear there’s a laundry list of items that need to be rectified prior to opening.
