Afcons Casts Delhi Metro Golden Line DC-07’s Final Tunnel Segment
Afcons Infrastructure in December-end celebrated casting their final of 8327 tunnel ring segments for Delhi Metro’s 23.622 km Golden Line (Line-10) which will connect Aerocity – Tughalakabad via 16 stations
Afcons is responsible for constructing 112.32 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project’s 6.981 km Package DC-07 connecting Sangam Vihar Station and Sarita Vihar Depot. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had awarded DC-07’s Rs. 1669.20 crore contract in January 2022 with a 42 month deadline.
Afcons partnered up with Cooper Turner Beck group to supply segment casting accessories to their casting yard located in Mundka. Casting works there had started in December 2022, and Afcons took 24 months to complete casting activities.
These segments are currently being fed into 4 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to build the Golden Line’s twin tunnels. Each 1.4m wide tunnel ring comprises of 5 segments + 1 smaller ‘key’ segment.
Afcons Infrastructure’s scope also includes constructing 3 underground stations at Maa Anandmayee Marg, Tughlakabad Railway Colony, and Tughlakabad where it will form an interchange with the Violet Line’s station built in Phase 2.
Afcons has so far completed building 2 of 8 tunnels, both connecting Air Force TBM Launch Shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg Station. The up-line tunnel was completed in December 2024 by TBM Amrit (Robbins 372) and the down-line tunnel was completed earlier this week by TBM Tejas (Herrenknecht S-711).
Their other two TBMs – Herrenknecht S-1264B and Robbins 364 will build the tunnels from Tughlakabad Metro Station to Tughlakabad Railway Colony Station and onward to Sarita Vihar Depot.
