Sam India Begins Chennai Metro Line-3’s Underground Work at Indira Nagar

After URC Construction last month, Sam India Builtwell has now also officially started construction work on 45.4 km Chennai Metro Line-3 which will connnect Madhavaram Milk Colony and SIPCOT via 49 stations.

Sam India on Friday held a groundbreaking ceremony for Package UG05-RT-01 at Indira Nagar Station with officials from Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) – the original contractor – and Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL). They’ve been subcontracted all underground station works for the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project‘s section between Adyar Depot and Taramani Link Road Ramp.

Following a puja ceremony, Sam India deployed a Schwing-XCMG trench cutter machine to start grabbing and trenching works to construct the diaphragm wall (D-wall) around Indira Nagar Station.

CMRL had awarded Package UG05-RT01’s Rs. 665.99 crore contract to RVNL in July 2023 with a 1725 day (4.7 year) deadline. They in turn subcontracted out its construction work to Sam India Builtwell for an undisclosed amount.

This package includes entire civil work at 3 stations, partial works at 1 station and one ramp leading to Line-3’s elevated section towards Sholinganallur and SIPCOT.

Brief Scope: Construction of three (03) underground stations at Adyar Depot, Indira Nagar and Taramani Road Jn and Ramp and works other than diaphragm wall of underground station station Thiruvanmiyur Metro

    Many AOC/LOA updated on Website.
    1) Sam India Got AOC for Depot of Mumbai Metro Line 6 as per Tender website but some news reports are now saying additional land is required to construct the depot.
    2) Mumbai Metro 12 contractor got AOC/LoA. Final value is less than they bided looks like MMRDA negotiate with them
    3) Mumbai Metro Line 5 Track Work also got LoA.

Cool, thanks. For Line-12, it’s possible that the reported figure doesn’t include GST + taxes.
