DMRC Issues Notice to Energize Pink Line in March for Trial Runs
Hat tip to reader Aby K
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) yesterday issued a public notice (see below) in major newspapers indicating they’ll be energizing the Overhead Electric (OHE) traction system in March for commencing trial runs along 2 stretches of the 58.6 km Pink Line. This new line, the centerpiece of the 160 km Phase 3 project, forms a ring around the city and has been beset with problems ranging from land acquisition to tunneling issues that has led to the DMRC missing its December 2016 deadline.
The 2 stretches mentioned are:
• Mukundpur Ramp – Shakurpur Ramp in north-west Delhi (4.906 km)
This has been made possible only after the up-line tunnel, located at at the mouth of the Mukundpur Depot in Rameshwar Nagar, was built & cleared of 2 TBMs via an emergency shaft in December 2016. Two other TBMs are still occupying the down-line tunnel and will be removed, one after the other, in the coming weeks. Only after that will the DMRC run a train through the up-line tunnel for testing the Azadpur – Netaji Subhash Place section.
• Mayapuri Ramp – Delhi Cantonment Ramp in west Delhi (1.676 km)
Construction work resumed over the Ring Road at Mayapuri in the Q4 2016. Since it’ll take a couple more months to plug that entire section, the DMRC is most likely going to airlift and position 1 train on top of the Mayapuri Ramp like it recently did for the Magenta Line at Sadar Bazaar.
In March 2016, the DMRC issued a similar notice for energizing the Delhi Cantonment Ramp – Bhikaji Cama Place Ramp section following the completion of OHE works, so trial runs in this part of the city are effectively expected to take place on a 8.545 km (1.676+6.869) stretch between Naraina and Moti Bagh stations.
Here’s a map showing the locations of all the above ramps:
Let’s now see if the DMRC follows through with trial runs in March-April.

Wake me up when they start trials. I cannot wait TMRG.
Will do! 😀
sir when will phase iv mukundpur shiv vihar corridor work start?
Not before 2018. There are some hoops to jump through before work can start.
Why don’t dmrc give away OHE and look Into track generated e if dey r facing so much constant problems in OHE,so many others states have taken up tat technology
Safety is one of the factors. They don’t want people to fry themselves by accidentally (or deliberately) coming in contact with the 3rd rail.
Wat message DMRC is trying to convey ppl.
Is this the way they can bring ppl in confidence eagerly waiting for 3rd phase to open.
@tanmay..they are not giving any message or influencing public. It is a statutory requirement to issue a public notice before energisation considering the safety issues. Although i must admit their deadline game regarding ito-kashmere gate line is a public gimmik.
@tanmay they are not giving any message or influencing public. It is a statutory requirement to issue a public notice before energisation considering the safety issues involved. Although i must say their deadline gae regarding heritage line is a public gimmik.
Bro,You are talking only about ito-kg section.
What about magenta & pink line which had december 2016 deadlines and are dealayed by 1 & 2 years respectively.
@tanmay.. i know the magenta and pink line are delayed by 1 and 1.5 yrs resp. but you have to admit.. the reasons for the delay are not all that can be blamed on DMRC. There were various land acquistion issues some of which are still unsolved. Besides that DMRC has admitted that pink and magenta line are delayed.
What about trial runs on mayur vihar pocket 1 -shiv vihar trials or i.p extension to shiv vihar originating through vinod nagar depot. In i.p section only hasanpur is small hurdle 4 piers. Rest of line little work is left.
instead of overhead wires go for track electrification
We’re at March 10, and OHE at Mukundpur Ramp still isn’t done.
ooooo, that’s not good. Thanks for the update.
When will trial runs on pink line starts ??????
Hi, I wish I could provide a date, but I’m not the one calling the shots. I’ll share info/news whenever something comes out. Be assured, it’ll definitely start from Mukundpur as the line has land acquisition issues in both directions around the Vinod Nagar Depot.
Will DMRC put down Metro train set at Sakarpur ramp to start trial runs at pink line because OHE work is near completion from Rajouri Garden to Sakarpur ramp ?????
