Karnataka Govt’s Cabinet Approves Bangalore Metro’s ORR Line

No further details on the line’s financial split/outlay or new construction timeline have been announced at this time.

The line will be developed under Phase 2A with the hope to secure a bulk of funds (Rs 1100 – 2100 crores) from private companies and developers located adjacent to the line’s alignment. Its Detailed Project Report was prepared by the BMRCL’s in-house planning team in 2016 and can be viewed here: BMRCL Reveals Silk Board – KR Puram Line’s Detailed Project Report.

Stations: 13 at KR Puram (interchange with the Purple Line’s upcoming extension to Whitefield), Mahadevpura, DRDO Sports Complex, Doddanakundi, ISRO, Marathahalli, Kodibisanahalli, Kadubeesanahalli, Bellandur, Ibbalur, Agara Lake, HSR Layout, Silk Board (interchange with the upcoming RV Road – Bommasandra line).

Depot: Baiyappanahalli (existing Purple Line’s depot will be re-purposed)

Have the GoK and BMRCL approved the airport line? If so, what will be finalised route? I believe it will most probably connect KIA from Nagavara through Hebbal and Yelahanka (Ballari Road/NH). Please let me know. Any confirmed update will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, the airport line’s route is yet to be fixed despite RITES suggesting a bunch of potential routes to the BMRCL years ago – see this post. While this decision should ideally be taken up by the BMRCL, they’re relying on the government to take it. Once the route is fixed, a DPR will be drafted, amended, finalized and then sent to the government for its approval.

The line is easily 2 years away (perhaps even 5 years away, if they want to pursue it under Phase 3) from getting approved.

Hi, Phase 3’s tunneling works are over, so there’s no point in publishing the same info again. 2 TBMs are still inside the Gurdwara Shaft (between Azadpur – Majlis Park). Whenever they’re out, I’ll post an update.

At this time, I don’t have anything to post about the magenta line. Will share whenever there’s something!

    This was long overdue…
Any idea if the track will be built on the median or land needs to be acquired for the same? How about the stations? Areas like Marathalli and bellandur r fully developed with little room for land acquisition…

This approval does not make any sense with BMRCL execution manner. BMRCL has not been able to connect Manthri Mall to majestic even after a year of completion still giving silly reasons . even majority of phase 2 tenders have not awarded, worst UG line tenders have not yet been called , UG line construction looks will start only in 2020 .

Cabinet can approve any project who will execute the project in a time bound manner

Good. Hope they move faster onnexecution front.

Why is RV road to Bommasandra line not highlighted in the map indicating various other lines ?

Also i see no movement whatsoever in gottigere nagawara line. It is not going to come up anytime soon is an easy assumption given some of its stretches are also underground. Donyiu agree TMRG ?

Delays / holdup in existing projects is showing the inefficiency of planning authoritiess in implementing the project on time. As a Priority the project completion should be monitored and insured executed within time frame to avoid any escalation in overall cost of the project.
Wasting funds on underpass ,flyovers is worthless and on sustainable solution

why not Govt plan in advance to extend outer ring road line till Hebbal or BEL Circle or Goraguntapalya which is planned till K R Puram? If extends then it may help many commuters..

Yes, you are right. A loop line from yeshwantpur to kr puram via hebbal/nagawara (along orr) will make sense and also interconnect existing lines along the way.

As it stands today: koramangala and hebbal are two big exclusions from any of the planned metro lines.

Now that steel flyover is dropped, Govt should prioritize the MG Road -Airport Metro Line .
If govt starts on Metro in 1 year , even with delays we would have metro line in another 4-5 years.

The Nagawara line would take another 8-10 years to complete and then the metro for airport would not make sense.

Perhaps Bangalore Metro officials should be forced to watch the documentary on the construction of the Shangahi maglev line.

The construction of the 30 km line began in March, 2001 and public commercial service commenced on 1 January 2004. This is despite terrible soil conditions on which 2500+ pillars were erected for the line at 20m intervals in just 9 months.

It is completely feasible to build the airport line in 3 years.

Hi, there are plans to connect Carmelaram with Yelahanka in Phase 3 – see this post. Given how Phase 2 is sluggishly panning out, I don’t see construction work on this line beginning before 2025.
